The senator tapp<\/a>ed to preside over President Trump\u2019s impeachment trial is no stranger to the limelight \u2014 he\u2019s made cameos in at least five \u201cBatman\u201d movies<\/a> over the years.<\/p>\n

Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, has appeared in more of the franchise\u2019s films than any actor who\u2019s actually portrayed the Dark Knight.<\/p>\n

An avid comic book lover, the 80-year-old lawmaker got his start in Gotham with an uncredited cameo in 1995\u2019s \u201cBatman Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

From there, he appeared as himself in 1997\u2019s \u201cBatman & Robin\u201d and played a\u00a0Wayne Enterprises\u00a0board member in the last two flicks of the \u201cDark Knight\u201d trilogy.<\/p>\n

In 2008\u2019s \u201cThe Dark Knight,\u201d Leahy\u2019s character boldly tells the Joker (played by Heath Ledger) that \u201cWe\u2019re not intimidated by thugs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, you remind me of my father. I hated my father,\u201d the villain snaps back while holding a blade to Leahy\u2019s face.<\/p>\n

Leahy also had a bit in 2016\u2019s \u201cBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice\u201d as the character Sen. Purrington \u2014 in a scene set during a Senate hearing destroyed by an explosion.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear exactly how Leahy got involved with the Caped Crusader, but according to TMZ<\/a>, his actor son helped out by letting Hollywood bigwigs know early on how big of a \u201cBatman\u201d fan his dad was.<\/p>\n

All of his earnings from the films were donated to charities \u2014 including the Kellogg\u2013Hubbard library in Montpelier<\/a>, where Leahy has said he first read comic books as a child.<\/p>\n

The \u201cBatman\u201d superfan has also done some voice acting for the 1990s animated series and wrote the foreword for a 1992 collection of the comics.<\/p>\n

Leahy \u2014 who was sworn in last week as Senate president pro tempore \u2014 was briefly hospitalized on Tuesday after saying that he did not feel well. <\/p>\n

\u201cOut of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated,\u201d Leahy\u2019s spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

He was released on Tuesday night and said he was feeling better.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
