\u201cColumbo\u201d and \u201cLA Law\u201d actor Bruce Kirby has died at age 95.<\/p>\n

His son, John Kirby, confirmed his death<\/a> in a Facebook<\/a> post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father loved acting and aside from his extraordinary professional career in television, film & theater, he never stopped working on it from his early years in New York on scholarship with Lee Strasberg for 9 years, LA\u2019s Theatre East & The Actors Studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very painful for him when he no longer could perform. I am so glad his wonderful work will live on\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a great father who loved Bruno and me and as a family he made it his business for us to tour in these professional Summer Stock packages, something we would all look forward to every summer\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad you\u2019re up there with Bruno and so many of our loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

The American character actor began his illustrious on-screen career in the 1950s, where he starred in the anthologies \u201cOmnibus\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cGoodyear Playhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n

He made a leap in the \u201960s when he was cast in prominent roles on television favorites \u201cThe Patty Duke Show,\u201d \u201cI Dream of Jeannie,\u201d \u201cCar 54, Where Are You?\u201d and \u201cThe Defenders.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the \u201970s and \u201980s, Bruce made the transition to sitcoms including \u201cThe Doris Day Show,\u201d \u201cThe Mary Tyler Moore Show\u201d and \u201cMASH,\u201d and he specialized in cop and detective dramas.<\/p>\n

Most notably, the Hollywood mainstay played Sgt. Kramer in \u201cColumbo,\u201d and between 1986 to 1991, he represented D.A. Bruce Rogoff in \u201cLA Law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruce was seen on many beloved programs over the years, including \u201cThe Golden Girls,\u201d \u201cThe Sopranos,\u201d \u201cThe West Wing,\u201d and closed his career with roles on \u201cNumb3rs\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cScrubs\u201d in the 2000s.<\/p>\n

Though he mainly focused on television roles, the performer did make it to the big screen on several occasions, teaming up with comedian Matt Dillon for the Oscar-winning\u00a0picture \u201cCrash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruce also made it to Broadway, where he played Uncle Ben in 1984\u2019s \u201cDeath of a Salesman,\u201d starring Dustin Hoffman.<\/p>\n

Bruce\u2019s eldest son, Bruno, who also led an avid acting career, lost his life to leukemia at age 57 in 2006.<\/p>\n

Bruce is survived by his second son, John, and wife, Rosalyn, and led a highly-acclaimed and distinguished career in Hollywood.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
