It\u2019s official: Sex really does sell.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The borderline-pornographic period piece \u201cBridgerton\u201d is now the most-watched show in Netflix history. On Wednesday, the streaming giant announced<\/a> that a whopping 82 million households tuned into the steamy Shonda Rhimes bodice-ripper in the first 28 days since the show\u2019s launch on Dec. 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But all those viewers probably weren\u2019t tuning in for the Regency-era costumes and string quintet versions of pop songs. <\/p>\n

The romance novel-based show, which has already been renewed for a Season 2, follows the hormone-fueled love affair between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor, 25) and Simon Basset (Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, 31).<\/p>\n

Dynevor revealed to Glamour<\/a> that the show\u2019s many sex scenes \u2014 including a solo sex scene \u2014 weren\u2019t as effortless as they seemed. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe did the intimate scenes like stunts \u2014 we blocked them out, so you have yoga balls in between you and all sorts of things that never make you feel exposed in any way,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d rehearse with Reg\u00e9 so much that we both knew what we were doing. It felt very practical. But on my own, it\u2019s a different thing,\u201d she said, referring to a masturbation scene early in the season. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe stage directions are very specific: You have to have an orgasm. It\u2019s a difficult thing to rehearse, which means you don\u2019t. You just do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t elaborate any further on whether she accomplished that, however, she said she got through the scene thanks to the show\u2019s female \u201cintimacy coordinator.\u201d Like fellow actress Keira Knightley, who recently swore off performing sex scenes for male directors, Dynevor said she felt more comfortable getting through the masturbation scene without the burden of the male gaze. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf we didn\u2019t have an intimacy coordinator, it would be our director, who was a male, coming up to me and telling me what to do,\u201d she said. \u201cNo one wants to be told how to orgasm by a man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Netflix revealed that \u201cBridgerton\u201d ranked No. 1 in 83 countries including the US, UK, Brazil, France, India and South Africa, and made the Top 10 in all 190 countries where Netflix is available, save for Japan.<\/p>\n

Granted, Netflix\u2019s metrics include viewers who tuned into the first few minutes of a show or movie \u2014 so take \u201c82 million\u201d with a grain of salt, as it\u2019s unlikely that many people watched it all the way through. It still indicates a huge audience for the show though, and perhaps a cultural app<\/a>etite for more romance adaptations on-screen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Season 2 will follow Daphne\u2019s oldest brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), and his love\/hate relationship with Kate (a new character who hasn\u2019t appeared on-screen or been cast yet). Season 2 does not yet have an announced premiere date but production is scheduled to begin in the spring.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
