A lot, as we\u2019re coming to see with his latest \u201cbased on a true story\u201d film, <em><strong>The Courier<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/em>Cumberbatch stars in\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em> as unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne, who gets recruited by American spies to smuggle information on the KGB. Watch\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em> trailer below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Courier_Trailer\"><\/span>The Courier Trailer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Courier Official Trailer | In Theaters March 19\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Qeo8qs9xohM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released a trailer for\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em>, which was formerly titled\u00a0<em>Ironbark<\/em> when it played at Sundance last year. But the new title doesn\u2019t do the film any favors because it\u2019s unfortunately a little generic. That casts a bland shadow over the rest of the film, which may in fact be a thrilling Cold War spy movie. It does seem to hit all those beats: the paranoia, the muted color scheme, the creeping dread. But despite an all-star cast \u2014 which in addition to Cumberbatch also includes\u00a0<strong>Rachel Brosnahan<\/strong>, <strong>Jessie Buckley<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Merab Ninidze<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em> just feels all a little been-there-done-that.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe it\u2019s Cumberbatch\u2019s penchant for playing important men in boilerplate biopics, but\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em>\u2018s trailer doesn\u2019t spark much excitement in me. But hey, I may be wrong, as the film had a fairly decent reception at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, with \/Film\u2019s Ben Pearson giving it a positive review. There\u2019s also the unexpected twist of Cumberbatch\u2019s character being a normal civilian businessman who gets roped into a huge international scheme \u2014 the premise has shades of Matt Damon\u2019s bumbling whistleblower in\u00a0<em>The Informant!<\/em>, though on the more serious side. I guess it\u2019s refreshing to see Cumberbatch play a character who\u2019s not completely competent and smooth-talking for once?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dominic Cooke<\/strong> <em>(On Chesil<\/em> <em>Beach<\/em>)\u00a0directs\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em>, which is written by Tom O\u2019Connor. It is executive produced by Cooke, O\u2019Connor, Cumberbatch, Leah Clarke, Ashley Fox, Glen Basner, Alison Cohen, Milan Popelka, and Josh Varney. Adam Ackland, Ben Browning, Ben Pugh, Rory Aitken, and Donald Sabourin are also set as producers.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the synopsis for\u00a0<em>The Courier<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>THE COURIER is a true-life spy thriller, the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history.
