“#How to Check Which Graphics Card (GPU) Your Mac Has”<\/strong><\/p>\n

To display graphics on your screen, your Mac uses a graphics card, often called a Graphics Processing Unit (or GPU), which can be integrated into your Mac or on a discrete card. The GPU determines how quickly your Mac can render graphics in game<\/a>s and other app<\/a>s. Here\u2019s how to check which GPU your Mac has.<\/p>\n

First, click the \u201cApple\u201d menu in the upper-left corner of your screen and select \u201cAbout This Mac.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the \u201cAbout This Mac\u201d window that opens, you\u2019ll see slightly different information, depending on whether you have a Mac with an Intel CPU or one with Apple Silicon (such as the M1 chip).<\/p>\n

If you have a Mac with an Intel CPU, you\u2019ll see a roundup of your Mac\u2019s specifications, including what graphics card or cards your Mac has. You\u2019ll find the information under \u201cGraphics\u201d in the list. In this example, the GPU is \u201cIntel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"On<\/p>\n

If you have a Mac with Apple Silicon (such as the \u201cM1\u201d chip), you might only see the \u201cChip\u201d listing, with no special line for \u201cGraphics.\u201d That\u2019s because the GPU and CPU come integrated on the M1 chip. So in this case, \u201cApple M1\u201d is technically the designation for both the CPU and GPU on our example Mac.<\/p>\n

On either Intel or Apple Silicon Macs, you can get more detail on your graphics hardware by clicking \u201cSystem Report\u201d in the \u201cAbout This Mac\u201d window.<\/p>\n

\"Click<\/p>\n

In the \u201cSystem Information\u201d app that appears, expand the \u201cHardware\u201d section in the sidebar and click \u201cGraphics\/Displays.\u201d You\u2019ll see a detailed view of exactly what GPU or GPUs your Mac uses listed under \u201cChipset Model.\u201d For example, here\u2019s an Intel Mac with a single \u201cIntel HD Graphics 6000\u201d GPU.<\/p>\n

On a Mac with Apple Silicon, you\u2019ll see the GPU listed under \u201cChipset Model.\u201d As mentioned before, the CPU and GPU are the same chip in this case, the \u201cApple M1.\u201d<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re done, close \u201cSystem Information,\u201d and you\u2019ll walk away knowing more about your Mac than you started, which is always a good thing!<\/p>\n
