Lupin<\/i><\/strong> was the first surprise streaming hit of 2021, with its first five slick, super-fun episodes taking Netflix by storm. The crime caper series<\/a> starring Omar Sy<\/strong>\u00a0became the first French series to make the streamer\u2019s U.S. Top 10. But because of Netflix\u2019s weird release strategy (splitting up shows by \u201cParts\u201d instead of seasons), we\u2019re left to wait to find out what happ<\/a>ens next to Sy\u2019s master thief Assane Diop. And thankfully the wait won\u2019t be too long, with\u00a0Lupin<\/em> Part 2 set to hit Netflix this summer.<\/p>\n

Netflix announced that Part 2 of the French crime thriller series\u00a0Lupin<\/em> will debut on the streaming service in\u00a0Summer 2021<\/strong>. The five new episodes will be directed by Ludovic Bernard<\/strong> (The Climb<\/em>), who directs episodes 6 and 7, and Hugo G\u00e9lin<\/strong> (Love at second sight<\/em>), who takes on episodes 8, 9, and 10.
\nSy is set to reprise his role as\u00a0Assane Diop, a master criminal\u00a0driven to a life of thievery to get revenge on the people who framed his Senegalese immigrant father for a crime he didn\u2019t commit. Naturally, he bases his heists on the exploits of the fictional gentleman thief Ars\u00e8ne Lupin. Also starring in Part 2 are\u00a0Herv\u00e9 Pierre, Nicole Garcia, Clotilde Hesme, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Shirine Boutella,Soufiane Guerrab.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a fan of\u00a0Lupin<\/em>\u00a0hiring notable French filmmakers to direct the episodes \u2014 the\u00a0Transporter<\/em> director\u00a0Louis Leterrier helmed the first three episodes of the series \u2014 as it helps\u00a0Lupin<\/em> maintain its sense of style and panache. I tore through the first five episodes of\u00a0Lupin<\/em>, which is a wonderfully frothy little caper that finally gave star Omar Sy his due, after years of the\u00a0The Intouchables<\/em> breakout being wasted by Hollywood in forgettable supporting roles. The actual heists are a ton of fun too, and it\u2019s exciting to see what kind of twisty escapades they have in store for us in Part 2.<\/p>\n

Created by George Kay<\/strong> in collaboration with Fran\u00e7ois Uzan<\/strong> and produced by Gaumont T\u00e9l\u00e9vision,\u00a0Lupin<\/em>\u00a0is the latest international hit to come from Netflix, which has been aggressively expanding its global outreach, often resulting in lots of foreign-language gems getting buried in the algorithm.\u00a0Lupin<\/em>, thankfully, did not suffer that fate, and is deservedly getting a lot of attention after becoming the first French series to break into the U.S. Top 10 list (taking No. 1 in at least 10 countries, per Netflix).<\/p>\n
