\n Republican Sen. Tim Scott torched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s \u201coutrageous, sinful\u201d rhetoric against the GOP and its police reform bill Friday in a blistering radio interview.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, as a proposal written by Scott was foundering in the face of a Democratic filibuster threat, Pelosi said that Republicans are \u201ctrying to get away with murder, actually. The murder of George Floyd.\u201d<\/p>\n

That, Scott said Friday, \u201cwas the most outrageous, sinful comment I\u2019ve heard as a public official, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought to myself, \u2018How in the world does this woman, standing in front of a $24,000 refrigerator, have the sense to jump into the bottomless pit of race politics? Why in the world would she want to do that?\u201d he told Fox News<\/a> Radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s simply this: They believe \u2014 and I truly believe this \u2014 they believe that campaigning on police brutality is more important than solving police reform.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congress is at an impasse over police reform after Senate Democrats blocked Scott\u2019s bill, saying it did not go far enough to deal with fallout from Floyd\u2019s death in Minneapolis \u2014 and the House passed a bill on a party-line vote that is doomed to die in the other chamber.<\/p>\n

Pelosi has been raked for her out-of-touch display of her high-end kitchen app<\/a>liances packed with pricey artisanal ice cream at the height of the economic agony of the coronavirus shutdowns.<\/p>\n

Scott, the Senate\u2019s only black Republican, took the lead on the GOP\u2019s bill while sharing his own wrenching experiences of racial bias at the hands of law enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand some part of what too many have experienced,\u201d he said on the Senate floor Wednesday. \u201cJustice should be applied equally to all our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Democrats excoriated his bill because it would not have forced a national ban on chokeholds, and because it left the doctrine of qualified immunity \u2013 which shields cops from personal liability for their on-the-job conduct \u2013 intact.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Senate Dems filibustered the bill in a 55-45 vote that prevented it from being debated by the full chamber \u2013 a result cheered by Pelosi in the days since.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s lived so long in a state of privilege that she has forgotten that it\u2019s the Republican Party that voted more for the Civil Rights-era legislation than the Democrats,\u201d Scott vented Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe has forgotten so much about reality that she spends too much time in an alternate universe.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
