“#New Net Norvel Pelle expected to join team in Washington<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Nets expect newly signed Norvel Pelle to join them in Washington before Sunday\u2019s game<\/a> against the last-place Wizards.<\/p>\n

But with two roster spots still open \u2014 and one of them having to be filled by Saturday \u2014 coach Steve Nash said he expects the additions aren\u2019t done.<\/p>\n

While the path of least resistance would simply be to promote either of their two-way players \u2014 Chris Chiozza or Reggie Perry \u2014 onto standard deals, Nash admitted they probably will eschew that option.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess it\u2019s possible to sign one of our two-way guys,\u201d Nash said before Friday\u2019s rout of the Thunder. \u201cBut I think we\u2019re probably looking to sign somebody on a free agent deal here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Nash tried to manage expectations \u2014 Pelle hasn\u2019t played since last year\u2019s playoffs with the 76ers \u2014 there is opportunity for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of that, when you sign a guy midway through the year, hasn\u2019t been playing, is his fitness levels, ability to adapt quickly to the game,\u201d Nash cautioned. \u201cBut as far as his profile, he\u2019s a rim-protecting center who can block shots, and a lob threat in and behind the defense.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see as we go here how physically he\u2019s able to adapt to playing in the NBA again after a little layoff and we can get him up to speed and see if he gets an opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The struggling Perry picked a good time to notch his first double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.<\/p>\n

The Nets sat Kevin Durant for Friday\u2019s win over the Thunder with what was termed injury recovery.<\/p>\n
