“#Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider narrates his own band’s demise<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Well, this <\/em>is awkward.<\/p>\n

Rocker Dee Snider, who\u2019s carved a second career as a go-to voiceover artist, recounts the ugly split of his former band Twisted Sister in the Feb. 6 episode of \u201cBreaking the Band\u201d \u2014 the series<\/a> he narrates for Reelz.<\/p>\n

Yikes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was immedia<\/a>tely weird in its concept,\u201d Snider, 65, tells The Post. \u201cBut once we got into it we were just having fun. They filmed me while I was doing the voiceover, which is a major fourth-wall break. That was bizarre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Snider fronted Twisted Sister through its major heavy metal hits in the \u201980s, including \u201cWe\u2019re Not Gonna Take It\u201d and \u201cI Wanna Rock.\u201d The band\u2019s acrimonious breakup, fodder for the episode, occurred in the fall of 1987. The show\u2019s familiar format uses reenactments and interviews with band members (including Snider, guitarists Eddie Ojeda and Jay Jay French and co-manager Joe Gerber) to recount the sordid saga.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the semi-kitschy things about \u2018Breaking the Band\u2019 is the reenactments, with actors acting like how they think it actually went down,\u201d Snider says. \u201cPeople have big reactions to these, like, \u2018That\u2019s not really accurate, he doesn\u2019t look like David Lee Roth\u2019 while other people are like, \u2018It\u2019s fun to see that.\u2019 They sent me pictures [of the actor playing Snider] and I was pretty impressed with the casting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Snider says Ojeda, French and Gerber, who\u2019ve since patched things up, were fine with participating in the episode.<\/p>\n

\u201cI walked in and [the producers] had a GoPro on my stand for my copy and I said, \u2018OK, this is going to be fun,’\u201d he says. \u201cI\u2019d already called the guys to give them a heads-up. We\u2019re healed. We\u2019re friends. I said, \u2018Just go for it. Have fun with it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very cathartic and just plays to the fact that I\u2019m not who I was anymore,\u201d Snider says. \u201cIt\u2019s not presented as black-and-white, like, \u2018Oh yeah, Dee was an a\u2013hole and that killed the band.\u2019 There were a lot of machinations that got us to that point.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, me being an a\u2013hole was the icing on the cake.\u201d <\/p>\n

Snider says that he was recently a guest on French\u2019s podcast, \u201cFrench Connection,\u201d and felt compelled to apologize \u2014 once again \u2014 to his fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt like I publicly had to say something, even though the public wasn\u2019t aware of the behind-the-scenes stuff going on,\u201d he says. \u201cI just needed to say it again. The more I reflect on my actions as I grow, I realize, \u2018Wow, that must\u2019ve been really f\u2014ing hurtful [to others] to act like I did.\u2019 It took over. I was a control freak and I didn\u2019t want anybody to make decisions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was my mission to subjugate the band and [to] control everything,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd it worked \u2014 but that attitude wound up killing the whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Snider says it never entered his mind, at least initially, that he would one day narrate a \u201cBreaking the Band\u201d episode about Twisted Sister.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you start going down the list \u2026 10 bands, 20 bands \u2026 we\u2019re going to have to expand our horizons past the classic acts,\u201d he says. \u201cAs you do more [episodes] the bands think, \u2018We\u2019re moving up on the line.\u2019 Slowly it moves forward \u2014 and eventually gets to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

All in all, Snider says that narrating (and app<\/a>earing in) the episode was a positive experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in a position where you\u2019re narrating a show about yourself, with you as the focus of the subject matter, is very odd,\u201d he says. \u201cI thought it was groundbreaking \u2014 and I certainly think it\u2019s unprecedented.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
