Save your tears: The Weeknd is not crying over being snubbed by the Grammys.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sending\u00a0IDGAF\u00a0vibes to the Recording Academy for excluding him from the list of 2021 Grammy nominees, The Weeknd, 30, made it clear that he is utterly unfazed by the affront.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cForget awards shows,\u201d the pop powerhouse told Billboard<\/a>, noting that his collection of gilded gramophone trophies are totally insignificant to him now.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I personally don\u2019t care anymore. I have three Grammys, which mean nothing to me now, obviously,\u201d The Weeknd, real name Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, insisted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like, \u2018Oh, I want the Grammy!\u2019 It\u2019s just that this happ<\/a>ened, and I\u2019m down to get in front of the fire, as long as it never happens again. I suck at giving speeches anyways. Forget awards shows.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his newfound indifference to being ignored by the Grammys voting committee, the \u201cc\u201d crooner did liken the Recording Academy\u2019s rebuff to a \u201csucker punch.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI use a sucker punch as an analogy,\u201d The Weeknd said. \u201cBecause it just kind of hit me out of nowhere. I definitely felt \u2026 I felt things. I don\u2019t know if it was sadness or anger. I think it was just confusion. I just wanted answers. Like, \u2018What happened?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

His acclaimed 2020 album, \u201cAfter Hours<\/em>,\u201d featured\u00a0<\/em>certified-platinum single \u201cBlinding Lights,\u201d which spent a record-breaking 43 weeks in the Top 5 and the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did everything right, I think. I\u2019m not a cocky person. I\u2019m not arrogant,\u201d The Weeknd added. \u201cPeople told me I was going to get nominated. The world told me. Like, \u2018This is it; this is your year.\u2019 We were all very confused.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Upon the Recording Academy\u2019s announcement of its 2021 noms in November, The Weeknd publicly bashed the awards show for giving his hot hits the cold shoulder.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In January, fans of the \u201cStarboy\u201d <\/em>suspected him of firing off more shots<\/a> the Grammys\u2019 way via visuals \u2014 including startling faux plastic surgery \u2014 in the video for \u201cSave Your Tears.\u201d<\/p>\n

In one scene, The Weeknd is center stage, holding a golden trophy that he flippantly hurls off camera.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shade sleuths on Twitter<\/a> almost immediately concluded that the singer\u2019s on-screen savagery was a thinly veiled dig at the Recording Academy and its secret band of unnamed voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There has been speculation that The Weeknd\u2019s snub was birthed out of the Grammys wanting some kind of exclusivity to their artists, while he is set to slay the Super Bowl halftime stage with a $7 million showcase Feb. 7. <\/p>\n

Recording Academy chair and CEO Harvey Mason Jr. denied those claims, saying in a statement to Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cUnfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists \u2026 To be clear, voting in all categories ended well before The Weeknd\u2019s performance at the Super Bowl was announced, so in no way could it have affected the nomination process.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Weeknd intimated that race might have played a role in his chart-toppers being denied nominations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were like, \u2018Do you think the Grammys are racist?\u2019 I think the only real answer is that in the last 61 years of the Grammys, only 10 black artists have won Album of the Year,\u201d he said to Billboard. \u201cI don\u2019t want to make this about me. That\u2019s just a fact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artists standing to take home the coveted Album of the Year honors next month are Jhen\u00e9 Aiko, Black Pumas, Coldplay, Jacob Collier, Haim, Dua Lipa, Post Malone and Taylor Swift.\u00a0<\/p>\n
