A heavy storm is expected to pummel New York City on Monday with as much as a foot of snow \u2013 bringing gusty winds that will make the winter wonderland feel \u201cnear freezing,\u201d forecasters said.<\/p>\n

The Big App<\/a>le can expect to see flurries around midnight that will intensify throughout the day and into Tuesday, bringing six inches to a foot of snowfall, Accuweather senior meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the time most people get up tomorrow morning, it will be snowing,\u201d Pydynowski said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe snow will be light at first, so if people are waking up at 7 a.m. tomorrow, it won\u2019t necessarily be snowing hard but it will be snowing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The storm \u2014 which started in North Carolina and travel<\/a>ed up the East Coast \u2014 is expected to leave the tri-state area blanketed with a hard-to-shovel snowfall.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it first arrives later tonight, it might be relatively powerfully and fluffy but as the storm progresses, I think it\u2019s going to be a fairly wet snow, which isn\u2019t\u00a0uncommon for us when we have these storms coming up the coast,\u201d \u00a0Pydynowski said.<\/p>\n

By Monday afternoon, the tri-state area \u201cshould have enough snow to do some sledding.\u201d<\/p>\n

But those hoping to venture out in a winter wonderland will need to brace for frigid conditions \u2014 with lows in the 30s that will feel like \u201cnear freezing\u201d due to strong winds that will persist after the snow stops Tuesday, Pydynowski said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll have to bundle up to tolerate some winds, certainly have enough layers,\u201d Pydynowski said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
