Demi\u00e1n Bichir, a self-described \u201ccity rat,\u201d might be outdoorsy now.<\/p>\n

Bichir, 57, filmed \u201cLand\u201d with Robin Wright high up in the mountains of Alberta, Canada, for 29 days and walked away knowing he wouldn\u2019t be the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this film will change many things in me forever,\u201d Bichir said following the movie\u2019s premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. \u201cIt was just perfect timing for me. This is actually the first time I hugged, I give a tree a hug.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oscar-nominated actor said there was one film in particular that was \u201clooking at\u201d him through a particularly emotional scene for his and Wright\u2019s characters, and when filming completed he felt compelled to say goodbye to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we wrapp<\/a>ed I just stood up and went for a hug,\u201d he recalled, laughing. \u201cIt was such a beautiful feeling to hug a tree. I don\u2019t remember ever having done something like that, so many things have changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wright, who previously said she was inspired to take on this project because of \u201cugliness\u201d in the world, said the \u201chealing properties of nature\u201d act as \u201cmedicine\u201d for people, including her.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
