“#GOP protesters ‘Re-Occupy Wall Street’ over Game<\/a>Stop mess<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Dozens of members of the New York Young Republicans Club jumped on the anti-Wall Street bandwagon Sunday, gathering in Manhattan\u2019s Zuccotti Park to blast the hedge-fund managers targeting GameStop.<\/p>\n

The \u201cRe-Occupy Wall Street\u201d protesters ripped the big-money investors as \u201cdespicable\u201d for moving to stop last week\u2019s \u201clittle guy\u201d Reddit<\/a>-fueled run on the video-game-seller\u2019s stock to shore it up after the money men bet on it tanking. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s some blatant corruption going on in the buildings around us and in Greenwich, [Ct.], wherever hell they are,\u201d Gavin Wax, the group\u2019s president, told about 50 protesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s two standards,\u201d Wax said. \u201cThere\u2019s rules for thee, not for me. You got these big hedge-fund guys who are trying to short companies into the ground, and then they got called on their bluff by a bunch of anonymous day traders on Reddit.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then they have the balls to call those guys unsophisticated,\u201d he said. \u201cGod bless the little guy for making an honest buck and showing them how the market really works.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wax predicted that the deep-pocketed hedge-funders \u201care now going to cry and have their crocodile tears on CNBC and tell us, \u2018Oh, you know, you\u2019re manipulating the market.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThese guys have been manipulating the market to their advantage for years. For years,\u201d he said of the wealthy stock investors.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s protest \u2014 fashioned after the left-leaning Occupy Wall Street demonstrations that began in the park in 2011 \u2014 stemmed from a move by some Wall Street hedge funds to bet on GameStop\u2019s stock going down, prompting a Reddit push to buy it on trading app<\/a>s such as Robinhood to keep it high. <\/p>\n

The furious money-losing hedge funds then lobbied Robinhood to halt trading on the stock to stem their losses. Robinhood temporarily stopped the trading.<\/p>\n

The gaming store, once a staple at US shopping malls, was in serious decline before the populist run on its shares. <\/p>\n

Robinhood was slapped with a class-action lawsuit in Manhattan last week for pulling the store\u2019s stock from its trading options. <\/p>\n

According to the Young Republicans, Sunday\u2019s protest wasn\u2019t about political affiliations \u2014 they dubbed it a non-partisan event.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to take a stand today, tomorrow and every day that comes forward,\u201d the Young Republicans\u2019 vice president, Vish Burra, said at the rally. \u201c[Wall Street is] corporatizing the American dream and making a mockery of American freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group remained in the park for about two hours before disbanding.<\/p>\n

Among those speaking at the rally was mayoral hopeful and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, who called it hypocritical that Wall Street bankers took billions of dollars in tax-funded bailouts in 2008, only to now cry foul. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey screwed the little people once,\u201d Sliwa said. \u201cLets get these hedge-fund monsters before they get us.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
