The Caped Crusader? Nah, more like the Caped Comedia<\/a>n<\/em>, star of a new Batman podcast being launched by HBO Max<\/strong>. No, this isn\u2019t a joke, but a real thing being developed by the WarnerMedia streaming platform, set to star\u00a0Jeffrey Wright<\/strong> as the Dark Knight himself.<\/p>\n

Wright is trading the signature Commissioner Gordon mustache for a cowl in\u00a0Batman: The Audio Adventures<\/em><\/strong>, a new HBO Max podcast that offers a \u201ccomedic take on the Dark Knight,\u201d according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. Wright, who is set to make his debut as Commissioner Gordon in Matt Reeves\u2019 2022 film\u00a0The Batman<\/em>, will lend his voice to play Batman.
\nWhile it\u2019s a little funny that a member of an ongoing\u00a0Batman<\/em> franchise is set to star as Batman in a comedy podcast, Wright isn\u2019t the first name you\u2019d think of as a star of a comedy series<\/a>. But the rest of the cast, which includes a fair share of former and current\u00a0Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u00a0as well as well-regarded comedians, more than signal that this is a comedy. The cast of\u00a0Batman: The Audio Adventures<\/em>\u00a0includes\u00a0Chris Parnell<\/strong>, Melissa Villase\u00f1or<\/strong>, Seth Meyers<\/strong>, Brent Spiner<\/strong>, John Leguizamo<\/strong>, Ike Barinholtz<\/strong>, Bobby Moynihan<\/strong>, Kenan Thompson<\/strong>, Rosario Dawson<\/strong>, Jason Sudeikis<\/strong>, Alan Tudyk<\/strong>, Heidi Gardner<\/strong>, Brooke Shields<\/strong>, Paul Scheer<\/strong>, Tim Meadows<\/strong>, Fred Armisen<\/strong>, Ray Wise<\/strong>, Ben Rodgers<\/strong>, Katie Rich<\/strong>, Pete Schultz<\/strong>, Paula Pell<\/strong>, and\u00a0Toby Huss<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last but not least in the voice cast is\u00a0Dennis\u00a0<\/strong>McNicholas<\/strong>, a longtime writer at\u00a0SNL\u00a0<\/em>who penned and directed the multi-episode podcast series, which hails from Warner Bros.\u2019s Blue Ribbon Content division.<\/p>\n

Audio Adventures<\/em> is separate from DC\u2019s multi-year deal with Spotify to create podcasts based on its characters, which include titles like\u00a0Batman Unburied<\/em>, which features David Goyer as creator and executive producer. However, Audio Adventures<\/em>\u00a0does also seem unrelated from the slew of spin-off titles that Warner Bros. is developing for HBO Max based on their superhero properties, including\u00a0The Suicide Squad<\/em> spin-off\u00a0Peacemaker<\/em>, and a Gotham police procedural spin-off from\u00a0The Batman<\/em> which could ostensibly feature Wright as well.<\/p>\n

But Wright, who has done some superhero voice work before \u2014 voicing The Watcher in Marvel\u2019s upcoming animated series,\u00a0What If\u2026? <\/em>\u2014 likely won\u2019t face any issues of confusion if he app<\/a>ears in multiple Batman projects as different characters across HBO Max, as his role in\u00a0Audio Adventures<\/em> is purely, well, audio.<\/p>\n

McNicholas produced Audio Adventures<\/em> with Angela Petrella\u00a0(Stone Quackers, Golan the Insatiable<\/em>). Jon Berg, the former Warner executive-turned-producer who worked on\u00a0Justice League, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman<\/em>, is the executive producer.\u00a0Batman: The Audio Adventures<\/em> is due to hit HBO Max\u00a0sometime in 2021.
