“# CryptoQuant CEO says Coinbase Bitcoin outflows are a \u2018bullish signal\u2019 <\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Recent Bitcoin (BTC) outflows from Coinbase are reminiscent of the \u201cproof-of-keys\u201d days and could be a sign of a bullish future<\/a>, according to CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju.<\/p>\n

Data from the cryptocurrency analysis firm shows that more than 15,200 BTC, currently worth over $515 million, were withdrawn from Coinbase on Jan. 31.<\/p>\n

According to Ki Young Ju<\/a>, the withdrawal \u201cwent to custody wallets that only have in-going transactions,\u201d and was likely an \u201cOTC deal from institutional investors\u201d based on several identifiers. <\/p>\n

He also pointed to the fact that the split of a 15,000 BTC wallet into wallets containing 1,000-5,000 BTC increases security costs. Furthermore, most of the internal transfers are done with round amounts, like 1,000 to 5,000 Bitcoin, while this transfer included odd groupings of 1,265, 2,391, and 1,957 BTC. <\/p>\n

As to why Coinbase outflows are a bullish sign for the top cryptocurrency, Ki Young Ju linked to a previous tweet<\/a> from Dec. 18 which states that \u201cif Coinbase moves a significant amount of Bitcoins to other cold wallets, it indicates OTC deals\u201d which are non-exchange transactions. <\/p>\n

He said: <\/p>\n

\u201cSince the price is eventually determined on exchanges, massive non-exchange transaction volume is considered as a bullish signal. These transactions include OTC deals.\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The slow inflow of institutions into the cryptocurrency sector is helping to increase the legitimacy of the crypto sector as a whole and app<\/a>ears to be providing a certain level of support for the price of BTC as the available supply continues to be locked away in cold custodial wallets. <\/p>\n

While the media<\/a> were pointing to Bitcoin\u2019s price drop from $42,000 to below $30,000 as a sign that the BTC bubble had popped once again, the purchase of 4,000<\/a> BTC on Feb.1 indicates that institutions have instead seen this as an opportunity to buy the dip and are taking full advantage of this buying opportunity. <\/p>\n
