\nShortly after the news<\/a> broke that Dustin Diamond<\/strong> died at 44 from cancer, his Saved By The Bell<\/em> co-stars hopped on social media<\/a> to pay their respects and honor the late actor.<\/p>\n

As we previously reported, Diamond, who was best known for his role as Samuel \u201cScreech\u201d Powers on the NBC<\/strong> sitcom, passed away Monday after a very short battle with stage four single-cell carcinoma, which is a cancer that materializes in the lungs. He had been diagnosed just three weeks ago and was hospitalized.<\/p>\n

In a lengthy statement announcing his death, the late director\u2019s representative acknowledged his troubled past but wished everyone got to see his \u201cauthentic self\u201d in the end, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cDustin Diamond was a character in and of himself: an unpredictable spitfire who always left us shocked, but never left us bored. We are thankful he trusted us enough to share his genuine, authentic self with our team. We wish you knew him in the way that we did. We please ask that you give room for privacy to our team and Mr. Diamond\u2019s family during this tragic time, as we grieve and remember the memories spent together. This loss is as much stinging as it is sudden.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So sad.<\/p>\n

Mario Lopez<\/strong> was one of the first cast members to react to the death of the stand-up comedian, taking to Instagram<\/strong> after the news of his passing to write:<\/p>\n

\u201cDustin, you will be missed, my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted. Prayers for your family will continue on\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
