But Whedon stepped down from the project late last year, with HBO hiring\u00a0<strong>Philippa\u00a0Goslett<\/strong> to replace him as showrunner and executive producer. As a result, the first season, originally set for 10 episodes, has been reduced to a six-episode run. But those six episodes will be premiering on HBO soon, as revealed in the show\u2019s first teaser trailer. Watch\u00a0<em>The Nevers<\/em> teaser below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Nevers_Teaser\"><\/span>The Nevers Teaser<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CWdpBQFgdxQ\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CWdpBQFgdxQ<\/a><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->Set in a world where a population of people \u201ctouched\u201d with powerful abilities are persecuted,\u00a0<em>The Nevers<\/em> looks to be one of those rare original new shows, though it carries plenty of pop culture inspiration \u2014 the HBO series looks like\u00a0<em>X-Men<\/em> meets\u00a0<em>Buffy<\/em> meets\u00a0<em>League of Extraordinary Gentlemen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Starring an ensemble cast that includes <strong>Olivia Williams<\/strong>, <strong>James Norton<\/strong>, <strong>Tom Riley<\/strong>, <strong>Rochelle Neil<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Eleanor Tomlinson<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Nick Frost<\/strong>,\u00a0\u00a0<em>The Nevers<\/em> was dreamed up by Whedon, who was set to showrun and executive produce the series before he suddenly departed the project in November. There was some chatter that his exit was related to Ray Fisher\u2019s allegations on the\u00a0<em>Justice League<\/em> set, but none of that is confirmed. In a statement after his departure, Whedon chalked it up to fatigue, saying \u201cI am genuinely exhausted, and am stepping back to martial my energy towards my own life, which is also at the brink of exciting change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But despite the behind-the-scenes conflict for\u00a0<em>The Nevers<\/em>, it looks promising! The world looks rich, the ladies look kick-ass, and the story looks ripe to be fleshed out beyond Whedon\u2019s intriguing premise.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Nevers<\/em>\u00a0is also executive produced by Bernadette Caulfield, Ilene S. Landress, Doug Petrie, Jane Espenson and Philippa Goslett. <strong>Amy Manson<\/strong>, <strong>Pip Torrens<\/strong>, <strong>Denis O\u2019Hare<\/strong>, <strong>Zackary Momoh<\/strong>, <strong>Elizabeth Berrington<\/strong>, <strong>Kiran Sawar,<\/strong> <strong>Anna Devlin<\/strong>, <strong>Viola Prettejohn<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Ella Smith\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0round out the cast.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the synopsis for\u00a0<em>The Nevers<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 -->In the last years of Victoria\u2019s reign, London is beset by the \u201cTouched\u201d: people \u2013 mostly women \u2013 who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities \u2013 some charming, some very disturbing.
