\n Florida continued to record high coronavirus numbers Sunday \u2014 adding more than 8,500 new cases to its statewide tally, according to a report.<\/p>\n

The Sunshine State logged 8,530 new infections, bringing its total to 141,075 COVID-19 cases, NBC Miami reported.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s tally comes just one day after the state set a daily record for new cases with 9,585 infections.<\/p>\n

It marked the third day in a row that the state had seen more than 8,500 cases.<\/p>\n

Over the past seven days, there have been a total of 43,784 new cases \u2014 which accounts for more than 30 percent of the state\u2019s patients since the pandemic began, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

There were also 29 additional deaths reported Sunday, bringing the statewide death toll to 3,419, the report said.<\/p>\n

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that he still doesn\u2019t plan to issue a statewide order requiring masks \u2014 insisting the measure is best handled at the local levels.<\/p>\n

But he did call on younger people to wear masks to prevent the spread of the virus to their older family members and others who have underlying medical conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this may not be affecting you negatively, you can pass it along to other folks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
