“#Subway fights ‘fake’ tuna suit with cheeky marketing<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Fast-food chain Subway has deployed a marketing blitz in an app<\/a>arent bid to challenge allegations that its tuna is fake. <\/p>\n

\u201cKeep fishing folks, we\u2019ll keep serving 100% wild-caught tuna,\u201d the sandwich giant said in a tweet<\/a> after a headline-grabbing lawsuit was filed claiming there isn\u2019t actually any of the fish in its tuna.<\/p>\n

The company also said it is offering 15 percent off of one of its footlong tuna subs with the promotional code \u201cITSREAL,\u201d while another ad touts its \u201c100% tuna mixed with mayo,\u201d CBS News reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Subway\u2019s website is also topped with an ad<\/a> of its tuna sub that says \u201c100% REAL WILD CAUGHT TUNA 100% DELICIOUS.\u201d <\/p>\n

Two California women, Karen Dhanowa and Nilima Amin, filed the federal lawsuit on Jan. 21 claiming that \u201cindependent testing has repeatedly affirmed, the products are made from anything but tuna\u201d \u2014 though did not offer any evidence of that. <\/p>\n

After allegations came out that Subway\u2019s tuna was not real, the chain has come out with a new marketing campaign to defend its product. <\/figcaption>

They alleged the filling is \u201cmade from a mixture of various concoctions that do not constitute tuna, yet have been blended together by defendants to imitate the appearance of tuna.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Subway stood by the the quality of its tuna, saying in a statement Thursday that \u201cThere simply is no truth to the allegations in the complaint.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSubway will vigorously defend itself against these and any other baseless efforts to mischaracterize and tarnish the high-quality products that Subway and its franchisees provide to their customers, in California and around the world, and intends to fight these claims through all available avenues if they are not immedia<\/a>tely dismissed,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

Amin and Dhanowa\u2019s lawyer, Alex Brown, said in a statement Friday, \u201cWhat is Subway selling? We don\u2019t know yet, but we are certain it is not tuna.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re confident that our clients will prevail when they get their day in court,\u201d Brown\u2019s statement continued.<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s lawyers did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
