The sequel finds Murphy\u2019s\u00a0King Akeem once again setting out on a journey to America, and brings back familiar faces from the first film like <strong>Arsenio Hall<\/strong>, <strong>James Earl Jones<\/strong>, <strong>John Amos<\/strong>, <strong>Louie Anderson<\/strong>, and more.<strong>\u00a0Craig Brewer<\/strong>, who directed Murphy in the excellent\u00a0<em>Dolemite Is My Name<\/em>, helms the sequel. But people are no doubt going to be excited to check out\u00a0<em>Coming 2 America<\/em>, since it has Eddie Murphy reprising one of his most popular roles. And while Murphy\u2019s film output for the last few years has been a bit rocky, the recent\u00a0<em>Dolemite Is My Name<\/em> proved he\u2019s still just as funny now as he was in his glory days.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the official synopsis for\u00a0<em>Coming 2 America<\/em>: \u201cSet in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi(Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York \u2013 where it all began.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An earlier synopsis goes even further into what we can expect from the sequel:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Set after the events of the first film, former Prince Akeem Joffer (Eddie Murphy) is set to become King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America \u2013 a street savvy Queens native named Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler). Honoring his royal father\u2019s (James Earl Jones) dying wish to groom this son as the crown prince, Akeem and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) set off to America once again<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The full cast includes\u00a0Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, <strong>Jermaine Fowler<\/strong>, <strong>Leslie Jones<\/strong>, <strong>Tracy Morgan<\/strong>, <strong>KiKi Layne<\/strong>,<strong> Shari Headley<\/strong>, with <strong>Wesley Snipes<\/strong> and James Earl Jones. When Murphy is on, he\u2019s\u00a0<em>really<\/em> on, and the results can be hilarious. That said, I\u2019m slightly apprehensive about the film being rated PG-13. I\u2019m not saying a comedy needs to be R-rated to be successful, but I think we can all agree that Murphy is at his funniest when he\u2019s not constrained. Then again, Murphy\u2019s PG-13-rated\u00a0<em>Nutty Professor<\/em> was a huge hit, so what the hell do I know?
