“#Stereolab Share Rarity \u201cHousehold Names\u201d: Listen<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Stereolab have shared another entry from their forthcoming Electrically Possessed<\/em> compilation. The song, \u201cHousehold Names<\/a>,\u201d app<\/a>eared on the band\u2019s 2000 mini-album The First of the Microbe Hunters<\/em>. Check it out below.<\/p>\n

Tim Gane reflected on \u201cHousehold Names\u201d in a press release:<\/p>\n

During a two-week break in touring for the Cobra and Phases Group<\/em> LP we decided to go into Blackwing Studios to record a bunch of tracks \u201cold style\u201d\u2014straight to tape for what would become the world\u2019s first double-mini album First of the Microbe Hunters<\/em>. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing and there was only one\u00a0song already written (\u201cOuter Bongolia\u201d\u2014originally played by Turn On for three\u00a0concerts played around the time of the release of their LP 28\/07\/97) and one\u00a0song that had already been recorded and mixed earlier (\u201cI Feel the Air\u201d\u2014originally meant for Dots & Loops<\/em> but we run out of time to mix it for the mastering and so it was left off). Consequently\u2014as time was tight\u2014all of the other tracks were written very fast across two\u00a0or three\u00a0days. \u201cHousehold Names\u201d was one of three\u00a0tracks written on the first day (according to the running order on my Fostex cassettes) and it\u2019s a little bit of a hark back up to the poppy side of the ETK period I suppose. The track has some lovely singing throughout and great keyboard arrangements courtesy of Sean O\u2019Hagan. We played pretty much as a band and unlike the previous two\u00a0LPs we didn\u2019t use any computers. Andy [Ramsay]\u2019s working title for the song was \u201cDicky Bows at Dawn,\u201d a reference to its cabaret wedding band sound.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Electrically Possessed<\/em> includes \u201cDimension M2,\u201d which came out last month. The compilation is out February 26 via Warp<\/a>\/Duophonic UHF Disks.<\/p>\n
