The Suicide Squad<\/em><\/strong> is bound to be one of 2021\u2019s must-see films. James Gunn<\/strong> has travel<\/a>ed from the MCU to DCEU to create a film that will hopefully wash the horrible taste of 2016\u2019s\u00a0Suicide Squad<\/em> out of our mouths. While Gunn\u2019s film is bringing back several actors from the first movie,\u00a0The Suicide Squad<\/em> app<\/a>ears to be a reboot of sorts. Gunn himself has even confirmed that you don\u2019t need to watch the first movie to understand what\u2019s going on here, and that\u2019s a plus, because no one should be forced to watch that terrible first film. Now, ahead of the film\u2019s summer release in both theaters and on HBO Max, the official\u00a0The Suicide Squad<\/em> synopsis is here to give us clues about what we can expect to see.<\/p>\n

The synopsis comes directly from Warner Bros., kicking things off by calling the movie a \u201csuperhero action-adventure\u2026featuring a collection of the most degenerate delinquents in the DC lineup.\u201d The synopsis continues:<\/p>\n

Welcome to hell\u2014a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out\u2014even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today\u2019s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone\u2019s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave\u2026and Amanda Waller\u2019s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they\u2019re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone\u2019s laying down bets, the smart money is against them\u2014all of them.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In DC comics, Corto Maltese is a\u00a0small island off the coast of South America. The island was even mentioned briefly in Tim Burton\u2019s 1989\u00a0Batman<\/em>. Belle Reve is from the comics, too, with the DC wiki<\/a> calling it a\u00a0\u201cprison facility used to contain metahuman criminals. It was also used as a base of operations for Task Force X and the Suicide Squad. Located in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana near St. Roch, Belle Reve has been the epicenter of several sinister attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

The basic set-up here \u2013 the Suicide Squad gets tasked with a dangerous mission \u2013 is pretty much the same as the first film. But it sounds like we\u2019re in for more unhinged fun this time instead of scenes where a CGI-enhanced\u00a0Cara Delevingne using some sort of\u00a0MacGuffin weapon. In short, everything here sounds promising and we can all hopefully forget about the first movie. Forever.<\/p>\n

The Suicide Squad<\/em> stars\u00a0Margot Robbie<\/strong>, Idris Elba<\/strong>, John Cena<\/strong>, Joel Kinnaman<\/strong>, Jai Courtney<\/strong>, Peter Capaldi<\/strong>, David Dastmalchian<\/strong>, Daniela Melchior<\/strong>, Michael Rooker<\/strong>, Alice Braga<\/strong>, Pete Davidson<\/strong>, Joaqu\u00edn Cosio<\/strong>, Juan Diego Botto<\/strong>, Storm Reid<\/strong>, Nathan Fillion<\/strong>, Steve Agee<\/strong>, Sean Gunn<\/strong>, Mayling Ng<\/strong>, Flula Borg<\/strong>, Jennifer Holland<\/strong>, and Tinashe Kajese<\/strong>, with Sylvester Stallone<\/strong>, and Viola Davis<\/strong>. Taika Waititi<\/strong> is in there somewhere, too \u2013 although he\u2019s not listed in the synopsis. Make of that what you will!<\/p>\n

The Suicide Squad<\/em> is set to hit theaters and HBO Max on\u00a0August 6, 2021<\/strong>.
