\nIf only things were as good as they seemed on screen\u2026<\/p>\n

The more time that has passed since The CW<\/strong>\u2019s hit show One Tree Hill <\/em>aired, the more we learn that life behind-the-scenes wasn\u2019t all that great. In fact, for some, it was downright \u201chell\u201d!<\/p>\n

Jana Kramer<\/strong> actually opened up about some of the resentment towards her now very chummy cast during a recent episode of her Whine Down with Jana Kramer and Michael Caussin<\/em> podcast! The country singer invited special guests and former co-stars, James Lafferty<\/strong> and Stephen Colletti<\/strong>, to take this walk down memory lane, and honestly, it sounded like it was a really traumatizing time!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret the 37-year-old was \u201cdefinitely closest\u201d to Stephen, who played her love interest Chase Adams once she joined the series<\/a> in season 7 (she\u2019s often sharing this same answer with fans on social media<\/a>), but now we\u2019re learning why. Kramer spilled of the somewhat toxic environment:<\/p>\n

\u201cI did all my scenes with Stephen. I had very few scenes with James. When I was on the show there was just some, not cattiness, but just, \u2018You can\u2019t talk to this person if you\u2019re friends with this person.\u2019 So, I wasn\u2019t very close to James\u00a0because of certain situations\u00a0on the set at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yikes! Not cool at all!<\/p>\n

The teen drama, now available on Hulu<\/strong>, has taken on a life of its own as the cast regularly app<\/a>ears at Tree Hill<\/em> specific conventions \u2014 bonding as a group more so than they ever did during the series\u2019 run. These yearly events have also given the cast a chance to connect with folks they never crossed paths with on set, considering OG members Chad Michael Murry<\/strong> and Hilarie Burton<\/strong> left the series prior to Kramer\u2019s introduction as Alex Dupr\u00e9, for example. That said, all this recent \u201cfamily\u201d love annoys the singer most, who shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of frustrating because I\u2019m like, \u2018Why couldn\u2019t\u00a0we have all been friends\u00a0then? And you made the newbies\u2019 life a little bit of hell.\u2019 But it\u2019s cool. But now it\u2019s, like, annoying because they\u2019re all like, \u2018We\u2019re all friends now,\u2019 and I\u2019m just like you \u2014 one person \u2014 literally made it hell for us, because if we chose the wrong friend, we would be destroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While the momma of two never named a specific perpetrator, she did elaborate more on this topic a month earlier with Us Weekly. <\/em>She described her now iconic time on the show as \u201ctough,\u201d explaining:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was, like, you either are on this side or you\u2019re on this side. And if you are on this [side], then you can\u2019t be friends with this person.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Anyone else getting \u201cVarsity vs. JV\u201d vibes like the latest season of The Bachelor<\/em>? So much insecure competition! Which, we suppose makes sense considering these stars were at the peak of their fame back in the day, but still!<\/p>\n

Jana continued, recalling:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen now everyone\u2019s friends again, it\u2019s like, \u2018Wait a minute. Like, you were told that we couldn\u2019t be friends with this person and now you\u2019re saying you all are friends?\u2019 That is the biggest misconception, but OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In 2019, the Lifetime<\/strong> actress also hosted OTH<\/em> alum Bethany Joy Lenz<\/strong>, who portrayed the lovable Haley James Scott on the series for its entire run, on her podcast. Lenz admitted at the time:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be great to go back and not have it feel like it was divided in any way or when we were going\u00a0through a rough patch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Disgraced creator Mark Schwahn<\/strong>, who was accused of sexual harassment and emotional abuse in 2017 by over a dozen of OTH<\/em>\u2019s female cast and crew members, was partially to blame.<\/p>\n

However, her next statement seems to confirm she wasn\u2019t the problem, though who really knows at this point, right? She said of Kramer:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were such a firecracker. You always had such a great energy. I loved being in scenes with you because there was a firecracker in the room and you never knew when it was gonna go off.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s always sad to learn the messiness happening off-screen of your favorite show \u2014 and a show that feels like it\u2019ll never die with new teens rediscovering it on a daily basis. But alas, Jana\u2019s openness also makes us realize there\u2019s far better ways to spend your youth than being petty.<\/p>\n
