“#Save Yourselves TV Show in the Works Based on Sci-Fi Comedy \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Save Yourselves!<\/strong><\/em>, a science<\/a> fiction comedy that debuted at last year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival, had a fun premise: a couple decides to go on a vacation to an isolated cabin and leave their phones off the whole time\u2026but wouldn\u2019t you know it, that\u2019s the exact time that an alien invasion happ<\/a>ens\u00a0nearby.<\/p>\n

Now Universal Television and Keshet Studios are taking that premise to the small screen with a Save Yourselves<\/strong><\/em> TV show.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Universal TV is extending its deal with Keshet TV, the L.A.-based production arm of the Israeli media<\/a> giant. As part of the extension of that partnership, the two companies are developing a TV adaptation of the 2020 film\u00a0Save Yourselves!<\/em>, which hailed from\u00a0writer\/directors\u00a0Eleanor Wilson<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Alex H. Fischer <\/b>and starred\u00a0Sunita<\/b> Mani<\/strong> from GLOW<\/em> and John Reynolds<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0Search Party<\/i>. They played Su and Jack, a pair of Brooklyn hipsters who love Whole Foods and dream of the day that they can leave the trappings of the modern world behind them. The only problem is they\u2019re both addicted to their phones. But eventually, they decide to switch off all their devices and go away to a cabin in upstate New York. Here\u2019s how I described the rest of the plot in my full review of the movie:<\/p>\n

A few days later, they\u2019re on their way, having changed their voicemails to inform everyone they\u2019re going completely off the grid for a full week. But hilariously, the second they turn off their phones, the camera pans up to reveal aliens penetrating the atmosphere. Set in \u201cthe year humankind lost planet Earth,\u201d\u00a0Save Yourselves!<\/i>\u00a0spends some time playing with the tension of the protagonists being clueless and the audience knowing they\u2019re in serious trouble. Bad things begin happening just outside their line of sight, but it\u2019s not until Su breaks their pact and looks at her phone that they realize what\u2019s going on: a race of aliens \u2013\u00a0all of which look like round, fluffy, decorative pillows, but with long tongues that shoot out of them \u2013\u00a0is causing chaos across the world and drinking anything involving ethanol, including alcohol and gasoline, making the options to either hunker down or escape exponentially more difficult.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
