Cardi B\u2019s new song \u201cUp\u201d has arrived as promised, and it comes with a new video. The new Tanu Muino-directed visual opens with a shot of Cardi in a cemetery near a gravestone that reads \u201cRIP 2020.\u201d Watch it below.<\/p>\n

The new single is Cardi\u2019s follow-up to her raunchy hit with Megan Thee Stallion, \u201cWAP.\u201d In a new interview with Zane Lowe<\/a> on Apple Music, Cardi talked about how she decided to pivot away from the sexual theme<\/a>s of that song and make a song that\u2014like her first mixtape\u2014is inspired by Chicago drill. \u201cI was young, and I liked that and everything, so my mixtape was very all about gangster violence,\u201d she said. \u201cIf it’s up, then it\u2019s stuck, and that\u2019s where I wanted to take it with this record.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also said she plans to put out an album this year and has \u201clike 50 songs\u201d recorded. \u201cI\u2019m just still not satisfied,\u201d she said. \u201cIf I\u2019m not satisfied, I\u2019m just not satisfied, but I really want to put out an album this year. I feel like I have no choice now. Now, I feel like I exceeded my limit of holding. I just need to stop with the fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWAP\u201d set a record for the biggest debut streaming week and was named Pitchfork\u2019s No. 1 song of 2020. It was not submitted for Grammy consideration this year; representatives said it would instead be submitted next year as part of Cardi\u2019s forthcoming album. Cardi\u2019s last album was 2018\u2019s Invasion of Privacy<\/em>.<\/p>\n
