\n A California man says he and 27 members of his family tested positive for the coronavirus, including his dad, who succumbed to the illness just before Father\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

Richard Garay told Los Angeles-based TV-station KTLA that he was the first in his family to come down with COVID-19 symptoms last month.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt went from running nose to headache to full-blown fever,\u201d Garay said.<\/p>\n

Soon after, his 60-year-old father Vidal Garay also caught the illness \u2014 and his condition quickly worsened.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was painful to watch my dad\u2019s health decline so drastically in front of me,\u201d Garay told the outlet.<\/p>\n

His last words to his father were: \u201cDad, I don\u2019t think I\u2019m going to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

But while Garay eventually recovered, his dad didn\u2019t, passing away on June 20, a day before Father\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how so many people in the family became infected, but Garay thinks it could have been from a relative who visited in mid-May or from his mother\u2019s caretaker, according to CBSLA.<\/p>\n

Most of Garay\u2019s relatives who got sick, including his own children and his brother\u2019s pregnant wife, have also recovered.<\/p>\n

But Garay said he is sharing his family\u2019s story as a cautionary tale for people to take measures to protect themselves and their loved ones against the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want my father\u2019s death to be in vain,\u201d he said. \u201cI want people to understand coronavirus is a real thing.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
