In removing two videos from a US Senate committee hearing that note the promise of the drug ivermectin for early treatment of COVID-19, \u201cGoogle\u2019s YouTube has ratcheted up censorship to a new level,\u201d worries Sen. Ron Johnson at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. Though the National Institutes of Health hasn\u2019t yet recommended the \u201ccheap and widely available drug,\u201d some doctors are developing \u201cprotocols\u201d that use \u201ccheap, available and safe FDA-app<\/a>roved drugs to treat patients early.\u201d Yet \u201ccensors at YouTube have decided\u201d the public shouldn\u2019t \u201chear what senators heard\u201d and that the only medical viewpoint allowed \u201cis the viewpoint dictated by government agencies.\u201d Such action \u201crepresents a dark chapter in the history of medicine and journalism\u201d that \u201cshould frighten us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

While California\u2019s lockdowns have left Disneyland closed for 10 months, \u201cevery other Disney property in the world has reopened,\u201d and there\u2019s no evidence closures have \u201csubstantially stopped the spread of COVID-19,\u201d observes Reason\u2019s Zach Weissmueller.<\/a> \u201cThe media savaged\u201d Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis when Disney World in Orlando opened \u201cas Florida\u2019s case rate was rising,\u201d but the vastly different approaches of the two states resulted in \u201cremarkably similar\u201d outcomes regarding COVID. Meanwhile, shutdowns have \u201ctaken a devastating toll on working-class California residents\u201d; \u201cthe city of Anaheim, where the Mouse provides 78,000 jobs,\u201d looks like \u201ca ghost town.\u201d Florida\u2019s economy has fared better, but neither California\u2019s restrictions nor Florida\u2019s \u201cmore laissez-faire approach have proven effective at suppressing the virus.\u201d Bottom line: Lockdowns are just not \u201ceffective\u201d at halting this pandemic.<\/p>\n

Culture critic: San Fran\u2019s \u2018Brain-Dead\u2019 Crusade<\/strong><\/p>\n

The San Francisco school board recently announced 44 public schools named after historical figures must be renamed as part of a \u201cholier-than-thou crusade\u201d under the banner of \u201cbrain-dead political correctness,\u201d laments Gary Kamiya at The Atlantic<\/a>. Not only is \u201cjudging past figures by the standards of the present\u201d both \u201cuntenable and ethically suspect,\u201d but \u201crenaming the schools is likely to cost the already deeply indebted district millions\u201d without helping disadvantaged students or advancing \u201cthe cause of racial justice.\u201d But the left has \u201cembraced a kind of maximum-semiotic approach to cultural artifacts, in which historical context and intent are irrelevant.\u201d Campaigns like this \u201cmust not be immune from criticism simply because they purport to fight racial injustice \u2014 that noble cause is debased by empty gestures that achieve nothing.\u201d <\/p>\n
