Hollywood talent agency WME\u00a0has reached\u00a0a deal with Hollywood\u2019s writers\u2019 union, allowing it to represent movie and TV scribes again for the first time since 2019.<\/p>\n

The deal,\u00a0reached late Friday,\u00a0ends\u00a0Hollywood\u2019s epic two-year standoff between the agencies and their writer clients \u2014 from Shonda Rimes to Tina Fey to Seth MacFarlane and Lena Waithe \u2014 who were instructed by their union in 2019 to fire their agents over deep-seated conflicts over compensation.<\/p>\n

And it will force WME\u2019s parent, Endeavor, to whittle down its stake in Endeavor Content, an affiliated production company behind the critically acclaimed \u201cLa La Land,\u201d as well as new release \u201cBill & Ted Face the Music.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement announcing the deal, Endeavor\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Ari\u00a0Emanual said the agreement\u00a0\u201caddresses writers\u2019 core concerns while recognizing the unique aspects of our business. Writers have been a part of this agency since our inception, and they will continue to be a part of the lifeblood of WME. We look forward to once again serving as their advocates during this unprecedented time in our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

The deal requires\u00a0Endeavor-owned WME, which represents A-listers like Larry David and Matt Damon,\u00a0to put an end to\u00a0\u201cpackaging,\u201d a practice that allows production companies to pay talent agencies a flat fee to bundle their talent (writers, producers and actors) together for a film or TV\u00a0series<\/a>. <\/p>\n

But WME will be allowed to phase out the practice by June 30, 2022.<\/p>\n

The practice of \u201cpackaging\u201d using in-house production companies has come under fire across Hollywood for putting agencies in the conflicting roles of boss and agent \u2014 therefore creating an incentive to pay their talent less. <\/p>\n

All of Hollywood\u2019s top agencies, from UTA to CAA, have caved to the union\u2019s concerns, leaving WME alone in not having inked a deal. The Post earlier today reported that WME was finally close to striking a deal with the Writers Guild of America as soon as Friday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
