\n A Detroit police SUV plowed through a group of protesters in a terrifying caught-on-camera showdown \u2014 sending several flying off the hood as it accelerated through them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The officer\u2019s vehicle was surrounded Sunday night by protesters who claim it blocked a peaceful march against police brutality, according to witnesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chanting \u201cNo justice, no peace,\u201d some of the protesters app<\/a>ear to climb on the front of the marked cop car \u2014 as it suddenly lurches forward, the video shows.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOh my God!\u201d one woman screams, as a handful of protesters end up on the hood and in front of the SUV, which has its lights flashing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The vehicle lurches forward at least three times, sending protesters flying \u2014 with one seemingly still on the hood as the SUV finally races away.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDetroit Police Department drove into 10-12 protester<\/span>s including myself,\u201d activist Ethan Ketner wrote alongside one of the videos.<\/p>\n

\u201cMultiple people are going to the hospital,\u201d he said, condemning a \u201creckless driver who somehow has a badge.\u201d It was not immedia<\/a>tely clear how severe the injuries were.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another protester, Brendan Scorpio, tweeted, \u201cI got hit by a damn cop car today for walking.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Detroit police blamed \u201cagitators\u201d for surrounding the SUV, telling the Detroit News<\/a> that the unidentified officer saved himself after a rear window was \u201cbusted out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe officer tried to escape,\u201d the department told the paper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ketner, however, claimed in a Facebook post that the protesters were the ones defending themselves from a \u201cclear act of aggression\u201d as the car \u201cdrove into the protest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey did not need to drive past us for emergency purposes because they had other officers on the other side ready,\u201d he wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jae Bass, 24, told the Detroit Free Press that he was one of those flung from the hood \u2014 suggesting there could be more serious injuries, too.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe just floored it,\u201d Bass said of the police driver. <\/span>\u201cWe went flying off. He ran over a couple people\u2019s arms, feet.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Protest organizer Tristan Taylor told WDIV the incident was a perfect example of \u201cwhy we march.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe police feel like their badge gives them the authority to do harm and damage under any circumstances,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n
