\n Hugh Jackman played Wolverine in nine movies<\/a>, starting with 2000\u2019s \u201cX-Men.\u201d So, when it came time to hang up his claws as the Marvel superhero, he knew that it would be an emotional farewell.<\/p>\n

In an interview for Variety\u2018s Actors on Actors issue, Jackman talked to Anne Hathaway about shooting his final scene as Wolverine in 2017\u2019s \u201cLogan,\u201d directed by James Mangold.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were so many crossovers by the end, because I\u2019d played it for so long,\u201d Jackman said. \u201cI knew it was going to be my last one way before we wrote it. I made that decision. There was a weight of expectation that I\u2019d been carrying. I was super invested.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the R-rated superhero drama, a departure from the other \u201cX-Men\u201d movies, Jackman\u2019s last scene shows Wolverine sacrificing himself for his adopted daughter Laura (Dafne Keen).<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt so in it,\u201d Jackman said. \u201cI was working with a director that I worked with three times before, who I trust implicitly, Jim Mangold. I remember when we shot that scene, we were shooting very high altitude, and there were thunderstorms going off everywhere, and we had to shut down. He just said, \u2018We can\u2019t do this big stunt scene. But we\u2019re just going to do the death scene.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Like, now?\u2019 He goes, \u2018I\u2019m just going to have you and Dafne, and if you could just do that.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018All right.\u2019 He knew that\u2019s best for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The meaning of the scene wasn\u2019t lost on Mangold \u2014 or Jackman. \u201cWe got there and we\u2019re shooting the scene,\u201d Jackman said. \u201cDafne was 11. She was fantastic. We shot Dafne, and she turned around in two takes and he goes, \u2018Let\u2019s just kick out. Let\u2019s do another.\u2019 I said, \u2018You sure? I feel like \u2013\u2018 and he goes, \u2018Man, let\u2019s just stop the clocks. Let\u2019s not worry about everything. This is the end of 19 years. Sit it in for half an hour.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe rolled the cameras,\u201d Jackman recalled. \u201cHim allowing me \u2014 not just as an actor, but as Hugh \u2014 to remember that moment. It was a luxury that I\u2019ll never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n

Variety\u2018s Actors on Actors issue celebrates the best TV performances of the year. Jackman is receiving the best reviews of his career for playing a school superintendent in HBO\u2019s \u201cBad Education,\u201d while Anne Hathaway portrays a woman coming to terms with her bipolar disorder in the Amazon anthology series \u201cModern Love.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
