As Bitwise researcher David Lawant points out, Tesla\u2019s BItcoin exposure <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dlawant\/status\/1358770737365061633\">represents<\/a> roughly 7.7% of its gross cash position. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">According to the most recent 10K filing, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tesla?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Tesla<\/a> had cash &amp; equivalents of $19.4 billion (gross), or $98 billion (net of debt and finance leases). <\/p>\n<p>Using these figures as a reference, $1.5 billion in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a> represents an allocation of 7.7% on gross cash or 15.1% on net cash. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FgRpzRcXBh\">https:\/\/t.co\/FgRpzRcXBh<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tDVqJGtj2Q\">pic.twitter.com\/tDVqJGtj2Q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Lawant (@dlawant) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dlawant\/status\/1358770737365061633?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 8, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>He derives those figures from Tesla\u2019s cash and equivalents, which netted a gross of $19.4 billion by the end of 2020, or $9.8 billion net of debt and finance leases. <\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Bitcoin purchase puts it <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bitcointreasuries.org\/\">near<\/a> the top of the corporate treasuries list. Only one other company \u2013 MicroStrategy \u2013 has purchased more of the digital asset as part of its strategic reserves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of Tesla\u2019s participation in the Bitcoin market sent prices soaring on Monday. As Cointelegraph reported, the BTC price hit a high near $45,000, easily surpassing its previous peak. Bitcoin&#8217;s market cap exceeded $800 billion for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to adding BTC to its balance sheet, Tesla plans to accept the digital asset as a mode of payment. What\u2019s more, the BTC it receives will not be liquidated for cash but added to its balance sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla is spearheading Bitcoin adoption at a crucial time in the bull market. Given Elon Musk\u2019s propensity to move markets, Tesla\u2019s newfound Bitcoin exposure could hasten retail adoption in the short term. <\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin has also piqued the interest of large corporations.
