Derrick Rose arrived in Miami early Monday night and said he wants another crack at making the Knicks great again, saying he\u2019s \u201cgrateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Knicks Twitter<\/a> account showed him arriving at Miami airport and stating on video:<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it wasn\u2019t going to happen at first. A lot goes into being traded. I\u2019m feeling grateful, anxious, but at the same I know what I have to do coming here. It\u2019s about helping the young guys, playing as hard as I can and, for one, thanking Thibs [Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau].\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Rose will wear No. 4 \u2014 Dennis Smith Jr.\u2019s number \u2014 because the Knicks already have 25 filled by Reggie Bullock. Without a practice, it doesn\u2019t appear likely Rose will make his second Knicks debut Tuesday against the Heat, especially because he hasn\u2019t played at all this month.<\/p>\n

With the trade with Detroit becoming official earlier in the day, Rose, who played for the Knicks for one season in 2016-17 and wanted to re-sign, wrote about his excitement on Instagram, relaying a missed opportunity in his first Knicks stint.<\/p>\n

\u201cOther hoopers always used to tell me that if I ever had the chance to play in the MECCA go for it,\u201d Rose wrote. \u201cI\u2019m getting a second chance. \u2026 Got to make this one count. But I\u2019m built for it. What\u2019s Pooh spelled backwards???? The s\u2013t just in my blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Knicks did not re-sign Rose after that season, after Steve Mills took over as president for the ousted Phil Jackson. The snub hurt Rose, according to his 2019 autobiography.<\/p>\n

Rose, 32, explained in the book his decision to leave the Knicks after a midseason game<\/a> and head home to Chicago without permission, confirming he had contemplated retirement at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I left the Knicks that day in January 2017, that\u2019s what it was about. I just needed to go home,\u201d Rose wrote. \u201cI went to the crib with my mom. \u2026 I had decided I was done playing. I saw the same thing that was happening with the Bulls was going on with New York. I could tell that the season wasn\u2019t going to be the season everyone thought, that I thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Knicks finished 31-51 but Rose averaged 18 points. Now he\u2019s joining Thibodeau for the third time.<\/p>\n

Rose\u2019s Instagram post also stated, \u201cAre you still searching for your treasure or are you still content with working at the crystal shop\u2026 This experience called life will always challenge you to your core. Especially if you are trying to master your craft.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
