“#’Cyberpunk 2077′ developer CD Projekt hit with cyberattack<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A hacker attacked the beleaguered video-game<\/a> developer behind \u201cCyberpunk 2077\u201d and threatened to leak the source codes for three of its titles, the company said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The app<\/a>arent ransomware attack was the latest headache for CD Projekt, the Polish firm whose highly anticipated \u201cCyberpunk\u201d game became a glitch-ridden mess after its December release.<\/p>\n

The company said it discovered on Monday that an \u201cunidentified actor\u201d had broken into its internal network, collected a trove of data and left a ransom note, which CD Projekt posted on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The firm said it did not believe that any of its players\u2019 or users\u2019 personal data had been compromised in the attack.<\/p>\n

But the hacker said in the note that they had obtained the full source codes for \u201cCyberpunk 2077\u201d and two other games, \u201cWitcher 3\u201d and \u201cGwent,\u201d as well as internal accounting, legal, investor-relations and other documents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we will not come to an agreement, then your source codes will be sold or leaked online and your documents will be sent to our contacts in gaming journalism,\u201d the alleged note read. \u201cYour public image will go down the s\u2014-er even more and people will see how you [sic] s\u2014-y your company functions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The hacker also encrypted some devices in CD Projekt\u2019s network but it had backups that remained intact, according to the company.<\/p>\n

CD Projekt said it would not negotiate with the hackers despite the possibility that the compromised data could be released. The firm added that it\u2019s been in touch with law-enforcement authorities and IT forensic specialists about the attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are taking necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such a release, in particular by approaching any parties that may be affected due to the breach,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n

CD Projekt\u2019s Warsaw-listed stock dropped 4.3 percent to 274 Polish zloty ($74.09) as of 6:19 a.m.<\/p>\n

The attack came as CD Projekt tried to clean up \u201cCyberpunk 2077\u201d after widespread glitches made the game difficult to play on older PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles after its December launch.<\/p>\n

CD Projekt has released patches and fixes to address the problems, which forced the company to offer refunds and led Sony to pull the game from its PlayStation store.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
