\n Jacob Riis Park in Queens will reopen with lifeguards on July 1 in line with local, city-run beaches, the National Parks Service announced Monday.<\/p>\n

The sandy haven, just west of the Rockaways, is a federally controlled beach that\u2019s been open for passive recreation and sunbathing throughout the pandemic but has stalled on bringing lifeguards back, which meant no swimming was allowed.<\/p>\n

On Monday, officials announced \u201cthe beach will now be open for swimming\u201d with lifeguards\u00a0 \u2014 while parking will remain at 50% capacity \u201cuntil further notice,\u201d according to a news<\/a> release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe barbecue area at Jacob Riis Park remains closed until further notice. Park rules and regulations remain in effect for Jacob Riis Park. Please follow social<\/a> <\/span>distancing guidelines. Please keep 6 feet from other visitors and avoid group gatherings,\u201d the news release goes on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ft. Tilden beach, sandwiched between Jacob Riis and Breezy Point, has also remained open throughout the pandemic but does not traditionally have lifeguards. Brenda Ling, a spokesperson for the NPS, said 2019 parking permits will continue to be honored for those seeking to use the Fisherman\u2019s parking lot at Ft. Tilden off Beach 193rd Street.<\/p>\n
