The 4400 is officially making a comeback.<\/p>\n

The CW on Tuesday announced a straight-to-series order for its remake of USA Network’s sci-fi drama.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> comes a little over two years since the project was first announced, but the series has been in development since.<\/p>\n

As expected, the network was holding off on a formal pickup until it got the project right, and the new take comes from Ariana Jackson (Riverdale, UnREAL).<\/p>\n

The reboot follows 4,400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years and are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happ<\/a>ened to them.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they\u2019ve been returned with a few\u2026 upgrades,\u201d the project’s description reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sounds eerie, right?<\/p>\n

The original series, created by Scott Peters and Ren\u00e9 Echevarria, launched in 2004 and lasted four seasons before being canceled.<\/p>\n

The original cast included Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Mahershala Ali, and Patrick Flueger, and followed a similar storyline to the remake.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the network has also announced three pilot pickups.<\/p>\n

First up is the live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot from Diablo Cody and Greg Berlanti.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Powerpuff Girls used to be America\u2019s pint-sized superheroes,” reads the logline.<\/p>\n

“Now they\u2019re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Powerpuff Girls was a popular animated series about three young sisters \u2014 Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup \u2014 who used their chemically engineered powers to protect the City of Townsville from an eclectic stable of supervillains.<\/p>\n

Created by Craig McCracken, it originally aired on Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2005.<\/p>\n

The CW also ordered Naomi, a series adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis\/David F. Walker\/Jamal Campbell\u2019s DC comic of the same name.<\/p>\n

\u201cNaomi follows a teen girl\u2019s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse,” reads the logline.<\/p>\n

“When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naomi hails from Ava DuVernay (Queen Sugar, When They See Us) and Jill Blakenship (Arrow), both of whom will write and executive-produce.<\/p>\n

The third project landing a pilot order is an as-yet-untitled dramedy about two millennial nuns: one who\u2019s devout and a true believer, and the other who hasn\u2019t yet taken her final vows.<\/p>\n

They \u201cstart as strangers and become sisters on a funny, spirtual journey to understand their own faith and place in the Catholic Church,\u201d per the logline. The project comes from Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir.<\/p>\n

There’s still no word on The Lost Boys, which has been in development for several years, and has gone through various different iterations.<\/p>\n

The CW recently announced it had renewed 12 shows.<\/p>\n

The young-skewing network has ordered up The Flash (Season 8), Riverdale (Season 6), DC\u2019s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 7), All American (Season 4), Charmed (Season 4), Legacies (Season 4), In the Dark (Season 4), Roswell, New Mexico (Season 4), Batwoman (Season 3) Nancy Drew (Season 3), Walker(Season 2), and Dynasty (Season 5).<\/p>\n

\u201cThough we\u2019re just a few weeks into the new season, we wanted to get a strategic head start on next season with these early renewals, which allows our production teams to start laying out story arcs and hiring staff, and at the same time, continues to provide us with a strong, stable schedule to build on for next season,\u201d said CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs The CW\u2019s 2020-2021 season kicks into high gear, we are thrilled creatively with the direction of our first new shows out of the gate, Walker and Superman & Lois, that we wanted to order the additional episodes to complete their first seasons, and we are particularly pleased with the huge success of the launch of Walker, which debuted as our most watched series premiere in 5 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
