Alex Trebek\u2019s dapp<\/a>er duds have a new role.<\/p>\n

Some of the wardrobe worn by the beloved \u201cJeopardy!\u201d host \u2014 who\u00a0died Nov. 8 at age 80<\/a>\u00a0following\u00a0a battle<\/a>\u00a0with pancreatic cancer \u2014 has been donated to the Doe Fund<\/a>, a nonprofit that provides housing, vocational training, continuing education and other services for formerly homeless and incarcerated New Yorkers.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring his last day on set, Alex extolled the virtues of everyone opening up their hands and their hearts to those who are suffering,\u201d said \u201cJeopardy!\u201d executive producer Mike Richards, in a statement. \u201cDonating his wardrobe to those who are working to rebuild their lives is the perfect way to begin to honor that last request.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the donated items are 14 suits, 58 dress shirts, 300 ties, 25 polo shirts, 14 sweaters, nine sport coats, nine pairs of dress shoes, 15 belts, two parkas and three pairs of dress slacks. The clothes will go to participants in the Doe Fund\u2019s re-entry program \u2014\u00a0called Ready, Willing & Able \u2014\u00a0as attire suitable for job interviews.<\/p>\n

Trebek\u2019s son, Matthew, is a supporter of the organization and had suggested making the contribution.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so grateful for\u00a0\u2018Jeopardy!\u2019\u00a0and the Trebek family\u2019s commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable among us,\u201d\u00a0said Harriet McDonald, president of the Doe Fund. \u201cThe men in our career training programs are always in need of professional attire, so they can shine in their job interviews and work with confidence once they\u2019re hired. This donation alleviates the obstacle of not having appropriate clothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The generosity has additional meaning for Harriet, whose husband \u2014 Doe Fund founder and president George McDonald \u2014 died of lung cancer at age 76 last month.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the enormous loss Matt and Jean [Trebek\u2019s wife] are going through, as well as their incredible resilience in the face of hardship,\u201d Harriet said. \u201cI\u2019m thankful that George got to see Alex\u2019s suits delivered to the people we serve before he left us. This generous gift honors the legacies of both men, and I know they\u2019re smiling down on us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trebek\u2019s last episode aired Jan. 8 and included a poignant video tribute to the longtime host. Since then, a long roster of celebrities has been lined up to fill his shoes, including game<\/a> show champion Ken Jennings, Katie Couric, newly engaged<\/a> Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Dr. Sanjay Gupta and \u201cBig Bang Theory\u201d alum Mayim Bialik.\n <\/div>\n
