Last November, we wrote about how writer\/director Judd Apatow<\/strong>\u2018s first feature film for Netflix would be a movie about a bunch of actors stuck inside a bubble during the pandemic. Now that project has a title \u2013 The Bubble<\/strong><\/em> \u2013\u00a0and a cast that is not just the same familiar lineup of stars that he works with all the time. The most notable member just might be\u00a0Maria Bakalova<\/strong>, the breakout star of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm<\/em> who held her own next to Sacha Baron Cohen and may even be poised to earn an Oscar nomination for that outstanding debut performance.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Judd Apatow\u2019s first Netflix movie has a title: The Bubble<\/em>. The filmmaker had been hoping to secure a powerhouse cast akin to the ones put together for movies<\/a> like Knives Out<\/em> and The Disaster Artist<\/em>, and you can judge for yourselves whether his roster here is in that same league. Members of The Bubble<\/em> cast include Bakalova,\u00a0Pedro Pascal<\/strong> (The Mandalorian<\/em>, Game<\/a> of Thrones<\/em>),\u00a0Karen Gillan<\/strong> (Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em>, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle<\/em>),\u00a0Fred Armisen<\/strong> (Portlandia<\/em>, Saturday Night Live<\/em>),\u00a0Peter Serafinowicz<\/strong> (The Tick<\/em>, Shaun of the Dead<\/em>), David Duchovny<\/strong> (The X-Files<\/em>, Zoolander<\/em>), Keegan Michael-Key<\/strong> (Key & Peele<\/em>, Friends From College<\/em>), and a pair who are especially near and dear to Apatow\u2019s heart, his wife Leslie Mann<\/strong> (This is 40<\/em>, The Other Woman<\/em>) and his daughter Iris Apatow<\/strong> (Love<\/em>, Funny People<\/em>).
\nThe new film is set during a pandemic and \u201cfollows a group of actors and actresses stuck inside a pandemic bubble at a hotel attempting to complete a film.\u201d It\u2019s unclear if these actors are playing versions of themselves, or if they\u2019ll be playing different characters who are actors within the fiction of this movie. This will be the first time Apatow makes a movie for Netflix; previous reports indicated that his long relationship with Universal has not soured, but when Netflix was able to provide funding for this project quickly, the director jumped at the chance to get the movie made.<\/p>\n

In addition to directing and producing the movie, Apatow is also going to write the screenplay alongside\u00a0Pam Brady<\/strong>\u00a0(South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut<\/em>,\u00a0Team America: World Police<\/em>,\u00a0Hot Rod<\/em>).\u00a0Barry Mendel<\/strong>, who has produced every one of Apatow\u2019s feature directing efforts since Funny People<\/em> in 2009,\u00a0will serve as an executive producer. Filming is supposed to begin sometime in early 2021.<\/p>\n
