Are you ready to go fast\u2026again? You better be, buster, because here comes\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/em><\/strong>. The sequel to last year\u2019s hit adaptation of the popular Sega game<\/a> now has itself a somewhat predictable title and an official release date: April 2022. The news<\/a> was announced via social media<\/a>, which included a little teaser that features absolutely no footage but does confirm that Sonic\u2019s pal Tails, who popped up at the end of the first movie, is going to have a part to play in the sequel.<\/p>\n

\nThe first\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog\u00a0<\/em>movie didn\u2019t have the smoothest path to the big screen. The film stumbled a bit when its first teaser revealed a Sonic design that terrified the masses \u2013 it was a\u00a0weird<\/em> looking monstrosity with an abundance of teeth. Rather than just leave things as they were, Paramount and the folks who worked on the movie went back and created a brand-new, less-toothy Sonic design that better resembled the video game counterpart.<\/p>\n

And you know what? It did the trick. When\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> opened in February of 2020, it went on to be a big hit, grossing $319.7 million\u00a0worldwide, which made it the\u00a0sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020\u00a0and the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America. When studios see numbers like that, a sequel is inevitable. And sure enough, a\u00a0Sonic<\/em> sequel was announced in May 2020.<\/p>\n

Now, we have some more info. For one, the movie is officially titled\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog 2<\/em>. For another, the motion poster above confirms what you could\u2019ve guessed: Tails, the\u00a0two-tailed fox who app<\/a>ears in the games and who dropped in at the end of the first movie, is going to be a big part of the sequel \u2013 you can see his two tails right there in the 2. And finally, the movie has a release date: April 8, 2022.<\/p>\n

Jeff Fowler<\/strong>\u00a0is set to return to direct the sequel, and screenwriters\u00a0Pat Casey<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Josh Miller<\/strong> are back as well. And it\u2019s probably a safe bet that\u00a0Ben Schwartz<\/strong> will be back as the voice of Sonic. Will Jim Carrey<\/strong> return to chomp the scenery as\u00a0Dr. Robotnik? We\u2019ll see, I guess. He\u2019s not officially attached at the moment.
\nI\u2019ve yet to watch\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em>, so I have no real opinion on the film! From what I\u2019ve heard, it was better than everyone expected. But does that make it\u00a0good<\/em>? I don\u2019t know! The film is set to hit Hulu on February 18, so maybe I\u2019ll finally check it out then \u2013 and you can too, if the mood strikes you.<\/p>\n
