aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       Twitter Inc.\u2019s stock took off Wednesday after the social-media company\u2019s fourth-quarter results and commentary about the outlook helped relieve concerns about how the service will fare in the new reality. <\/p>\n<p> For the first quarter, the company expects 20% growth in its count of monetizable daily active users, a projection that \u201cmostly mitigated\u201d fears of a user exodus following the company\u2019s decision to ban former President Donald Trump from the platform, wrote Bernstein analyst Mark Shmulik.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cTwitter is bigger than just one man,\u201d Shmulik continued, emphasizing the management team\u2019s point that 80% of Twitter\u2019s audience comes from outside the U.S. He has a market perform rating on the stock and raised his price target to $65 from $52.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Twitter<br \/>\n        TWTR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203180645\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+13.20%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       surged more than 13% Wednesday, closing at a new seven-year high. The stock notched its eighth-straight daily gain, and is on its best eight-day stretch since the period that ended Feb. 16, 2018, according to Dow Jones Market Data. Read more about Twitter\u2019s fourth-quarter results.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter \u201chas long faced criticism for not providing as granular guidance as some of its peers,\u201d wrote Pivotal Research Group analyst Michael Levine, who \u201cfound the greater level of transparency extremely encouraging.\u201d He commented that Twitter\u2019s management team \u201cled with a\u00a0swagger\u00a0and confidence we have not seen in some time.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Levine has a buy rating on Twitter\u2019s stock and lifted his price target to $77.25 from $67.<\/p>\n<p>MKM Partners analyst Rohit Kulkarni highlighted Twitter\u2019s disclosure that its increase in average absolute monetizable daily active users during January was above its historical average for the last four years, which suggested to Kulkarni that the \u201cTrump ban headwind is behind Twitter.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kulkarni reiterated a buy rating and upped his price target to $73 from $60 in a note titled: \u201cThis Birdie Is Ready to Perform &amp; Fly Smoothly In A Post-Trump Era.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leaving aside the Trump impact, others were less sold on the company\u2019s prospects. \u201cIt\u2019s worth calling out even in the strongest quarter we can recall in the digital ad market,\u00a0Twitter\u2019s U.S. [average revenue per user] only increased 7% YoY,\u201d wrote Evercore ISI analyst Kevin Rippey. \u201cCompare this to FB<br \/>\n        FB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205064656\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.90%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       +27% on the same metric and SNAP<br \/>\n        SNAP,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205087158\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.32%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       +62%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rippey said that while a common argument for Twitter bulls is that the company has an attractive long-term opportunity ahead if it fixes its challenges with monetizing its user base, he saw \u201clittle evidence in the 4Q result or forward outlook that suggests underlying organic trends have inflected.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>He maintained an in-line rating on the shares while boosting his price target to $50 from $40. <\/p>\n<p>In raising his price target on Twitter shares to $58 from $48, Cowen Equity Research analyst John Blackledge noted the company\u2019s user growth<br \/>has \u201cconsistently been in the low double digits, and we expect DAUs to grow modestly thru 2026.\u201d More importantly, he forecasts Twitter to grow slightly above worldwide digital advertising rates over the next five years.<\/p>\n<p>UBS analyst Eric Sheridan, equally enthused about Twitter\u2019s prospects, hiked his price target to $60 from $52 in a Thursday note titled, \u201cFlying Into The Analyst Day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not heard Twitter\u2019s tone on an earnings call sound this good in as long as we can remember,\u201d Deutsche Bank analysts said in increasing their price target to $76 from $65.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter shares have gained 52% over the past three months as the S&amp;P 500<br \/>\n        SPX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210599714\/realtime\" class=\"negative\">-0.03%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       has risen 9.6%.<\/p>\n<p><em>Contributing: Jon Swartz<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"byline article__byline\">\n<p>      <span>By<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"author  hasMenu\" data-scrim='{\"type\":\"author\",\"header\":\"Emily Bary\",\"subhead\":\"The Wall Street Journal\",\"list\":[]}' itemscope itemprop=\"author\" itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/Person\">\n<h4 itemprop=\"name\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Emily_Bary\"><\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marketwatch.com\/author\/emily-bary?mod=MW_author_byline\">Emily Bary<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
