American e-commerce giant Amazon is developing a new service that will allow its customers to shop using digital currency, according to the company\u2019s job postings.<\/p>\n

According to an official job application<\/a> on Amazon, the company is now building a tech team to enable a new digital currency service. Currently known as a \u201cDigital and Emerging Payments,\u201d or DEP, project, the service will initially roll out in Mexico, allowing local people to buy crypto with cash to spend digital currency while shopping.\u00a0The job posting reads:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product starting with Mexico as our initial launch country. This product will enable customers to convert their cash into digital currency using which customers can enjoy online services including shopping for goods and\/or services like Prime Video.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to the app<\/a>lication, Amazon\u2019s digital currency-focused software development managers are required to have a Bachelor\u2019s degree in computer science<\/a> or other equivalent degrees with over three years of managing the delivery of distributed software systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to data from LinkedIn, the job posting was published on Feb. 4. Prior to posting the application, Amazon announced that founder and CEO Jeff Bezos was planning to step down as CEO.<\/p>\n

Amazon did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to Cointelegraph\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Following Tesla Motors\u2019 announcement on the $1.5 billion Bitcoin (BTC) purchase, a number of major global companies including MasterCard have rushed to announce crypto-related services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
