Source: TradingView.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"So_why_is_ETH_struggling_at_the_moment\"><\/span>So why is ETH struggling at the moment?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the last several hours, Bitcoin has seen a decent rally after BNY Mellon said it would begin offering Bitcoin services later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Roman Regelman, the CEO of BNY Mellon\u2019s asset servicing and digital, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/02\/11\/bny-mellon-to-offer-bitcoin-services-a-validation-of-crypto-from-a-key-bank-in-the-financial-system.html\" data-amp=\"https:\/\/www-cnbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org\/c\/s\/www.cnbc.com\/amp\/2021\/02\/11\/bny-mellon-to-offer-bitcoin-services-a-validation-of-crypto-from-a-key-bank-in-the-financial-system.html\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBNY Mellon is proud to be the first global bank to announce plans to provide an integrated service for digital assets. Growing client demand for digital assets, maturity of advanced solutions, and improving regulatory clarity present a tremendous opportunity for us to extend our current service offerings to this emerging field.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The announcement almost im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely uplifted the momentum of Bitcoin, causing it to rally from around $45,500 to around $47,400. It eventually reached an all-time high hours after, rising to above $48,500.<\/p>\n<p>During the same period, the ETH\/BTC pair pulled back despite their respective USD remaining in relative lockstep. But in recent weeks, ETH typically rallied harder than Bitcoin during uptrends, alongside both large-cap altcoins and DeFi tokens.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-02\/737358e2-8303-4821-9892-c85555d06556.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>BTC\/USD vs. ETH\/USD (orange) 1-hour candle chart (Bitstamp). Source: Tradingview<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But, in the last 24 hours as Bitcoin gained significant short-term momentum, ETH has been lagging behind BTC.<\/p>\n<p>Willy Woo, a popular on-chain analyst, said that historically, Bitcoin is a better \u201cmulti-cycle HODL\u201d while ETH is a \u201cbetter mid-macro\u201d swing trade. <\/p>\n<p>This trend is shown during short-term cycles as well, as Bitcoin tends to increase steadily most of the time while ETH either accelerates against BTC or stagnates. Personal opinion from this data: &#8211; BTC is a better multi-cycle HODL. &#8211; ETH is a better mid-macro swing trade.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_next_for_Ethereum\"><\/span>What\u2019s next for Ethereum?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the near term, traders and analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly remain optimistic around the short-term cycle of ETH.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-02\/69ef6e8b-f310-4655-869c-3a9e9f81dc93.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>ETH, BTC year-to-date performance. Source: Digital Assets Data<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For instance, there has been no sell-the-<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> reaction to the CME ETH futures listing, which is a positive factor that may boost the chances of ETH\u2019s rally continuing.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, on the first day of trading, the CME ETH futures market traded over $30 million in volume, which is relatively high for the first day of trading. Thus, if the institutional demand for ETH rises similar to Bitcoin in late 2020, ETH could see a broader rally in the weeks to come.<\/p>\n<p>A trader known as \u201cPentoshi\u201d said that altcoins and ETH should have much stronger momentum, suggesting that they are currently stagnating. He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAlt market has me feeling a little uncertain atm $ETH and $LINK should have way more momentum, DeFi perp showing indecision Total potentially finding some resistance here at 500B Something to watch, and plan for. NOT FEAR. Any correction is opportunity.
