But the Five-Foot Assassin\u2019s legacy will carry on in his music \u2014 not only with A Tribe Called Quest\u2019s celebrated catalog but also his forthcoming solo album <em>Forever,<\/em> which is finally being rolled out after years of anticipation.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday night (February 11), Phife\u2019s estate began the process with a new posthumous single called \u201cNutshell 2\u201d featuring fellow Hip Hop heavyweights Redman and Busta Rhymes. The song is a continuation of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BU7m2CNq_9c\">\u201cNutshell,\u201d<\/a> which arrived less than a month after his death.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Phife - Nutshell\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BU7m2CNq_9c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>DJ Rasta Root, Phife\u2019s close friend and collaborator, spoke to HipHopDX about the impending album and revealed how difficult it\u2019s been to keep the project under wraps for so long.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as getting through the wait for the album, I want to say it\u2019s actually agonizing,\u201d Rasta Root tells DX Senior Writer Kyle Eustice. \u201cI was always, maybe anxious is the word, but also excited and very serious about it because I knew this album was his life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing the keeper of that information \u2014 whether it\u2019s the music or ideas of what he wanted to have on the album \u2014 was in my hands and I had to relay that to the family and the estate and make sure that it was seen through that way. That was the pressure, but it wasn\u2019t like a heavy pressure. His way of doing that was through his solo album. I know it\u2019s what he wanted the most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Forever<\/em> \u2014 a collection of \u201ccarefully assembled songs earmarked by his signature verbal fireworks, hilarious ad-libs, incisive <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> commentary, and unexpectedly introspective confessions\u201d will be released via Rasta Root\u2019s Smokin\u2019 Needles Records imprint in partnership with indie distributor AWAL. No official release date has been announced yet, but as Phife\u2019s mother\u00a0Cheryl Boyce-Taylor told DX last November, <em>Forever<\/em> will certainly arrive sometime early this year.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce-Taylor, a renowned poet, recently released her new book <em>Mama Phife Represents,\u00a0<\/em>a vibrant collection of poetry, short stories and handwritten letters all related to her late son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis passing was really difficult and I\u2019ll tell you why, because it was so public,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cBut the love we got from his fans around the world was like a cushion that held us up. You could sit on a wooden bench and hurt your butt or you could sit on a wooden bench on a pillow. It helped so much, because if people were going around saying crazy things about him, I would have lost it publicly.
