Here\u2019s how to use both \u201cText to Columns\u201d and \u201cFlash Fill.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Use_%E2%80%9CText_to_Columns%E2%80%9D_in_Excel\"><\/span>How to Use \u201cText to Columns\u201d in Excel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Select the cells you want to split by clicking the first cell and dragging down to the last cell in the column. If the names were separated only by a space, you could select \u201cFixed width\u201d instead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-702523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/delimited-next.png\" alt=\"delimited \" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Check both the \u201cComma\u201d and \u201cSpace\u201d delimiters and then the \u201cNext\u201d button. Delimiters are simply how the data is separated. In this case, we\u2019re using comma and space because each cell in column A has a comma and a space separating the two. You can use any delimiter that fits your data set.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-702524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/comma-space-next.png\" alt=\"comma and space\" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Next, we\u2019re going to click the cell where we want to start adding the data\u2014in this case B2\u2014and click \u201cFinish.\u201d This will add the first and last names to their respective columns.<\/p>\n<p>We could do this differently\u2014for example, adding first names to column B and last names to column C. To do so, we\u2019d highlight the first names in the wizard (notice the black highlight in the screenshot that signifies the active column) and then click the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriate cell.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-702526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/click-cell-1.png\" alt=\"click cell\" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You may notice a chime and then an inability to select the cell you want to move the data into. This, in essence, is a smarter way to copy and paste the data into new cells.<\/p>\n<p>Click inside the first cell of the appropriate column\u2014the one named \u201cFirst, in our example\u2014and type in the first name of the first person in your dataset.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-702527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/first-name.png\" alt=\"add first name\" width=\"650\" height=\"300\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Hit \u201cEnter\u201d on the keyboard to move to the next cell down.
