Captain Marvel 2<\/em><\/strong> has found a new adversary for\u00a0Carol Danvers in the form of Zawe Ashton<\/strong>. The\u00a0Velvet Buzzsaw<\/em> actress is joining the Nia DaCosta<\/strong>-directed film as the villain, although we don\u2019t know\u00a0which<\/em> villain she\u2019ll be playing just yet. Brie Larson<\/strong> is back as the titular hero, while Ms. Marvel<\/em> star Iman Vellani<\/strong> is part of the cast as well.<\/p>\n

Deadline broke the news<\/a> about Zawe Ashton joining the\u00a0Captain Marvel 2<\/em> cast. There\u2019s absolutely zero info on which character she\u2019s playing, and Disney and Marvel aren\u2019t telling. All we can say for now is that Ashton will play the film\u2019s villain. Will it be a villain from the comics, or a new creation? I\u2019m guessing it\u2019s the former and not the latter.
\nMegan McDonnell<\/strong>, story editor on WandaVision<\/em>, is handling the\u00a0Captiain Marvel 2<\/em> script<\/a>. Nia DaCosta, director of the upcoming\u00a0Candyman<\/em>, is helming the flick, while the cast will feature Iman Vellani, who is playing the title character in the upcoming Disney+ series<\/a>\u00a0Ms. Marvel<\/em>, and\u00a0Teyonah Parris<\/strong> as Monica Rambeau, a character we met as a kid in the first\u00a0Captain Marvel<\/em> and as an adult on\u00a0WandaVision<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In the first movie,\u00a0Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) was a human who gained superpowers but lost her memory in the process. As a result, she spent most of her life living as a member of the\u00a0Kree alien race. However, Carol eventually regained her memories and learned that everything she had been taught was a lie. The majority of the movie was set in the 1990s, but the\u00a0Avengers<\/em> sequels subsequently brought the character into the present day \u2013 and that\u2019s likely when the sequel will be set.<\/p>\n

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed the first movie, which also featured Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Carol\u2019s Kree mentor who turns out to be a villain, and a scene-stealing Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the\u00a0shape-shifting leader of the Skrulls. The movie was\u2026fine? I guess? I didn\u2019t dislike it when I saw it, but if I\u2019m being honest, the minute I walked out of the theater I stopped thinking about everything I had just seen, and I\u2019ve never felt an urge to revisit the film again. That said, Larson brought a Han Solo-like swagger to the lead role that I appreciated.<\/p>\n

Ashton was quite good in\u00a0Velvet Buzzsaw<\/em>, a weird horror-comedy I quite enjoyed, even though it received overwhelmingly mixed reviews. I\u2019m sure she\u2019ll be fine in\u00a0Captain Marvel 2<\/em>, although it would help to know which character she\u2019s playing. We\u2019ll find out sooner or later.\u00a0Captain Marvel 2<\/em> is scheduled to arrive on\u00a0November 11, 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
