“#Slain Bronx hoopster\u2019s last words revealed: \u2018Call my mom\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n The innocent Bronx basketball phenom gunned down Sunday night used his dying breaths to ask a friend to \u201ccall my mom,\u201d one of his teammates told The Post Monday.<\/p>\n

Brandon Hendricks, 17, was at a birthday party in Morris Heights with friends when shots rang out, pal Hammad Singleton said as he described his friend\u2019s final moments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the blink of an eye, me and my friends are running away,\u201d Singleton, 18, said. \u201cI turn around and he told me, \u2018I got hit,\u2019 and I just seen it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI grabbed him and said we can\u2019t stop right here because there\u2019s more shots going off,\u201d he said. \u201cHe stopped at the steps and we sat him down. He started wobbling. So, I sat him down. My friends took off his shirt and I\u2019m holding that for him. I\u2019m talking to him: \u2018You\u2019re good bro, you\u2019re good?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018Yeah, I\u2019m okay, I\u2019m okay.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s trying to smile. He\u2019s trying to talk to me: \u2018I\u2019m good, I\u2019m good,’\u201d recalled Singleton, who goes by the nickname Bam. \u201cHe said, \u2018Yo, Bam, I love you. Call my mom.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe just closed his eyes,\u201d Singleton said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t say anything else after that. That was it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hendricks, who graduated from James Monroe High School last week, was shot once in the neck around 11:50 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Avenue and 176th Street in the Bronx. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Witnesses told police that Hendricks \u201chad been engaged in a verbal dispute\u201d before the shooting, sources said.<\/p>\n

But Singleton said he was just a bystander.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really wasn\u2019t meant for him,\u201d he said. \u201cWrong place, wrong time. The people who were with me are all basketball players. Nothing to do with the streets.\u201d<\/p>\n

A standout student-athlete at the school, Hendricks was captain of the basketball team over the past two years, was weighing college options, his family said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a fierce competitor but also a very supportive guy,\u201d James Monroe basketball coach Nigel Thompson said. \u201cThat is why you see all this outpouring of love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard because you can\u2019t bring him back,\u201d Thompson said, lamenting how Hendricks had become a victim of the city\u2019s growing gun-violence. \u201cHe had so much promise. It\u2019s hard to deal with the senseless violence that plagues our streets.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
