“#West Virginia news<\/a>paper slams Big Tech for \u2018manipulating\u2019 digital media<\/a><\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The owner of a local West Virginia newspaper company is fighting back against\u00a0Big Tech\u00a0giants for monopolizing digital\u00a0media.<\/p>\n

Doug Reynolds of the Charleston Gazette-Mail, a Pulitzer Prize-winning paper, filed a lawsuit claiming companies like Facebook and Google are allegedly manipulating the digital advertising market.<\/p>\n

Reynolds told\u00a0\u201cAmerica\u2019s Newsroom\u201d<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday that the tech companies \u201cconspire to dominate the digital media space.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[T]he newspaper industry over the last 10 years has been making this \u2026 transfer to digital media, and what we found is, as we\u2019ve gone into this world, that Google and Facebook make the rules of the game<\/a>, they control the whole environment,\u201d the newspaper company owner stressed. \u201cThey compete against us for advertising dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Charleston Gazette-Mail owner emphasized 200 newspaper companies have closed nationwide and, in order for local journalism to survive, it\u2019s going to have to find a way to finance itself in the \u201cdigital sphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reynolds went on to say local journalism needs to be paid for in a \u201cdifferent way,\u201d and argued the industry has to be an \u201copen and even playing field.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[The Charleston Gazette Mail] is dependent on our readers and we empower citizens every day to make a positive impact in their community \u2026 we believe it\u2019s something that needs to continue,\u201d Reynolds said.<\/p>\n

Fox News reached out to Google and Facebook regarding Reynold\u2019s claims. Google said it is not commenting on this particular case. \u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
