In an interview last year, Paranormal Activity<\/em><\/strong> reboot writer Christopher Landon<\/strong> said he was \u201csuper excited\u201d about the yet-to-be-announced director who would be shepherding that vision to the big screen. \u201cI can\u2019t say who it is because they won\u2019t let me. He\u2019s a get. He\u2019s awesome! I think people are going to be really surprised by where we\u2019re taking this thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that mystery has been solved. A new report says that the\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> reboot director will be William Eubank<\/strong>, who most recently directed the Kristen Stewart-starring aquatic horror film Underwater<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Will Eubank will slide into the director\u2019s chair of Paramount Players\u2019 upcoming reboot of the Paranormal Activity<\/em> film franchise, which is being described as an \u201cunexpected retooling.\u201d That immedia<\/a>tely made me wonder if the franchise might shrug off the found footage aesthetic that defined its early success, but THR clarifies that the found footage app<\/a>roach will still be utilized in this retooling.
\nLandon wrote four of the Paranormal Activity<\/em> movies<\/a> and has become one of the primary architects of the narrative complexities of the supernatural horror franchise, so for him to still be involved with this \u201cunexpected retooling,\u201d I\u2019m wondering if the \u201cunexpected\u201d aspect might involve tapping into characters or corners of that established mythology that we\u2019ve seen already and putting them in a new context. Landon, who has gone on to write and direct Freaky<\/em> and the Happy Death Day<\/em> movies, has a playful creativity in his writing, so I\u2019m very curious to see exactly how this new version might breathe some life back into this series.<\/p>\n

As for Eubank, he\u2019s arguably best known for directing Underwater<\/em>, but he also made a splash with his 2014 science<\/a> fiction mystery The Signal<\/em>, and I\u2019m intrigued to see what kind of visual touches he decides to put on this latest entry. He\u2019s exactly the type of exciting up-and-comer that should be tackling a project like this, using it as another building block in his burgeoning career.<\/p>\n

Oren Peli<\/strong>, who wrote and directed the original 2007 film, will produce alongside Blumhouse\u2019s Jason Blum<\/strong>; the pair have produced every entry in this franchise so far.\u00a0Steven Schneider<\/strong>, who executive produced all of the previous films (save for the third one, which he served as a producer), will be returning to executive produce this installment as well.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em>\u00a0reboot is\u00a0currently scheduled\u00a0to hit theaters on\u00a0March 4<\/strong>,\u00a02022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
