“#Alex Trebek’s last ‘Jeopardy!’ champ, Brayden Smith, dead at 24<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\u201cJeopardy!\u201d is suffering another tragic loss after the death of beloved host Alex Trebek.<\/p>\n

Brayden Smith, a champion competitor during Trebek\u2019s final episodes he filmed before losing his battle with pancreatic cancer, died at age 24.<\/p>\n

He died unexpectedly last Friday in his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u2018Jeopardy!\u2019 family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden Smith,\u201d the show said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cHe was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go out to Brayden\u2019s family. He will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken to share that our dear Brayden Smith recently passed away unexpectedly,\u201d Smith\u2019s mother Debbie wrote on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cWe are so grateful that Brayden was able to live out his dream on @jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cause of death is unknown, TMZ reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Smith won five game<\/a>s in a row and more than $115,000 during his week on the show, which was filmed in October. <\/p>\n

According to his obituary<\/a>, Smith \u201cattained a lifelong dream\u201d when he competed on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d and was hailed on social media<\/a> as \u201cAlex\u2019s Last Great Champion.\u201d\u00a0Trebek had nicknamed him \u201cBilly Buzzsaw\u201d during his run and said: \u201cMost impressive, I don\u2019t know what to say,\u201d during his gameplay.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was looking forward to competing in the show\u2019s Tournament of Champions,\u201d for which he had been qualified, according to his obit from the Dignity Memorial funeral home.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Trebek] did, I believe, really like\u00a0Brayden,\u201d executive producer Mike Richards told EW<\/a>. \u201cI could tell that he very much enjoyed that young man, and that was fun to watch. I think that energized him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best part of it for me was spending time with [Trebek],\u201d\u00a0Smith said in an interview<\/a>\u00a0after his winning streak. \u201cDoing the questions and answers is almost incidental, I think, to spending time with somebody who I had cherished in my life for such a long period of time\u2026 I think back on it all the time and really savor each moment that I got to have with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
