Former\u00a0Jeopardy!<\/em> champion\u00a0Brayden Smith<\/strong> passed away earlier this month. He was just 24 years old.<\/p>\n

No cause of death has been published or announced anywhere, but it appears that the popular game<\/a> show contestant passed away a week ago, back on Friday, February 5, according to his online obituary.<\/p>\n

The game show contestant and successful quiz game participant had graduated from the\u00a0University of Nevada, Las Vegas<\/strong> with a degree in economics in 2020.<\/p>\n

His mother,\u00a0Debbie Smith<\/strong>, was the one to first confirm the news<\/a> of Brayden\u2019s death on February 12, 2020. Writing about her son\u2019s passing on\u00a0Twitter<\/a><\/strong>, Debbie noted (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken to share that our dear Brayden Smith recently passed away unexpectedly. We are so grateful that Brayden was able to live out his dream on @jeopardy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, so sad\u2026<\/p>\n

It makes things even more tragic that Smith himself was one of the very last champions heralded in the\u00a0Jeopardy!<\/em> realm by late show host\u00a0Alex Trebek<\/strong>. According to Smith\u2019s own obituary, he was hailed as Trebek\u2019s \u201cLast Great Champion,\u201d and was one of the final contestants to appear on the popular game show prior to the Canadian host\u2019s own death from pancreatic cancer in November of 2020.<\/p>\n

During his notable five-game winning streak on the show last November, the recent college graduate won an incredible $115,798 in prize money. He had been planning to compete on the show\u2019s\u00a0Tournament of Champions<\/strong> later this year.<\/p>\n

In an interview about the show he did back in January, Smith raved about Trebek at the time, and said (below):<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best part of it for me was spending time with him. To finally be on stage with somebody that I\u2019ve seen five nights a week every week for over a decade was really a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And now, they are both gone\u2026<\/p>\n

Just awful.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the show responded to\u00a0E! News<\/em>\u2018 request for comment with their own condolences, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jeopardy!<\/em>\u00a0family is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brayden Smith. He was kind, funny and absolutely brilliant. Our deepest condolences go out to Brayden\u2019s family. He will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Indeed.<\/p>\n

Too many people are leaving this world in sudden, unexpected ways, and we\u2019re worse off for it. Our thoughts, prayers, love, and condolences go out to Smith\u2019s parents, family, friends, and loved ones as they grapple with this unexpected and tragic outcome.<\/p>\n

Rest in Peace, Brayden\u2026<\/p>\n
