He\u2019s no joke. <\/p>\n

In the first images of Jared Leto\u2019s Joker for the 2021 extended cut of \u201cJustice League,\u201d he looks absolutely terrifying. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was always my intention to bring Joker into that world,\u201d the DC flick\u2019s director, Zack Snyder, told Vanity Fair<\/a>, which first published the photos of Leto\u2019s new look this week. Leto later tweeted<\/a> the eerie movie stills.<\/p>\n

Gone are the full-body tattoos and coiffed emerald-green hair of Leto\u2019s Clown Prince of Crime from the critically panned \u201cSuicide Squad.\u201d Instead, the \u201cSnyder Cut\u201d jester\u2019s new look includes a hospital gown, surgical mask and a grimy black mane reminiscent of Heath Ledger\u2019s iconic Joker in \u201cThe Dark Knight.\u201d<\/p>\n

If that wasn\u2019t terrifying enough, Snyder claimed that the Batman nemesis also wears a bulletproof vest studded with stolen cop badges like macabre medals of honor, Vanity Fair reported. <\/p>\n

The 49-year-old actor\u2019s re-imagined Joker will reportedly app<\/a>ear during a dream sequence set on Earth after an alien invasion that is experienced by Bruce Wayne, played by Ben Affleck. <\/p>\n

The cameo also allows Leto\u2019s Joker and Batfleck to talk face-to-face, if only in the latter\u2019s dreams. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe,\u201d said Snyder, 54. \u201cThat is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most importantly, the Joker\u2019s appearance will answer the much-asked question of why Batman had a Joker card taped to his gun in \u201cBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.\u201d The 2016 film indicated that the Joker had killed the caped crusader\u2019s partner Robin, a backstory that will reportedly be elaborated upon in the \u201cSnyder Cut\u201d scene, an expansion of the director\u2019s 2017 \u201cJustice League.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cZack Snyder\u2019s Justice League\u201d premieres March 18 on HBO Max<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s hoping that Joaquin Phoenix doesn\u2019t pressure Warner Bros to kill the film as revenge for Leto\u2019s assassination attempt on his \u201cJoker\u201d movie in 2019.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
